Graduating with Second Class Lower as a Medical Laboratory... How Bad is it? |
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by samuelpeters(m): 7:41am On Jan 19, 2023 |
Spaceclenzy1:It's not that bad. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, your license is the most important. It may only affect you if you want to further your studies. Even at that, you won't have much issues, If you continue to improve in other areas of your professional life. |
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by Spaceclenzy1(m): 9:41am On Jan 19, 2023 |
samuelpeters: Thanks Bro... But what about at practicing outside the country...? |
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by samuelpeters(m): 11:46am On Jan 19, 2023 |
Spaceclenzy1:It will not have much effect. Try and improve in other areas like leadership, humanitarian services, research et al. This would help boast your overall profile as a Scientist. 1 Like 1 Share |

FlordFlorez:Thank you so much for the reply and info.. the only problem I hv with the 'no DE exam' case is that my Olevel result is not a strong one or won't they be using Olevel result? |
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by FlordFlorez(m): 3:36pm On Jan 22, 2023 |
Adroit144:As long as u have ur minimum credit pass on those important subjects and ur ND result is distinction or upper credit, u are good to go. |

Spaceclenzy1:In clinical practice, it won't affect you, you need the license to practice. If you have interest in Lecturing, you can do Masters and PhD in Medical Laboratory Science. I heard some federal Universities will want you to get a PhD degree before they can accept you as Lecturer 1 because of the 2.2. It's not really easy to graduate with 2.2 in MLS sef. Go for more post graduation trainings to compact your CV. |
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by Unigrad: 4:27pm On Jun 25, 2023 |
Spaceclenzy1:If UK is your interest, you do HCPC, it will cost you Money and work experience. What you graduated with, doesn't matter. If it's Canada or US, you write ASCPi exam, 2.2 write it. It will cost you Money and reading. |

Can someone with a MLS or MLA certificate from Canada work in Nigeria? Is there a process to get the Nigerian license or do I have to graduate from a Nigerian MLS program to get the license? |
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by SIMPLIFIED(m): 8:37pm On Sep 07, 2023 |
shanny001:MLSCN has a foreign educated scientist program, you will have to mail council, they usually spend a year in teaching hospital undergoing training before taking licensing exam. But wondering what will make anyone leave Canada to come do MLS in Niaja |

Please what are the career choices in medical laboratory after nysc? |
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by SIMPLIFIED(m): 10:23am On Oct 11, 2023 |
sweetveek:The field is wide and open depends on your interest. MLS working in Hospital/ Diagnostic Facilities: The most common known to everyone Academia : Good thing is with BMLS you are taken as Assistant Lecturer against MSc needed for most other courses. Sales/Marketing : A lot of MLS work with companies like ISN marketing lab equipment, consumables and they make real cool cash with bonuses for meeting sales target. Application Specialist: They are the ones that come to install new lab equipment, train users, service it and so on. NGO: You have those working with the likes of IHVN, SFH, FHI360 among others were they are engaged in wide range of jobs and activities from epidemiology to Monitoring/Evaluation. Usually most have advance degree like MPH in addition to BMLS. Research : You have organizations like XceneResearch, NIMR involved in clinical trials and other medical research. Tech: you also have those that have branched into areas like software development building LIS softwares, Hospital data management etc. so you have wide options to choose from. Working in the bench is just a small fraction of what MLS do. 1 Like |
