How much monthly salary is good to earn in Lagos?
Abeg, matured responses only.

In Lagos, Abuja and PH, I would say a household income of N1.5mln net is required.

In most other cheaper cities like Ibadan, Abeokuta, Akure, Enugu, Calabar, Uyo, N1mln net will keep you quite comfortable. In these cities a 3bedroom house that will be N2.5mln in Lagos can be as cheap as N600k to N1mln. And food is cheaper too and you will spend less petrol moving around because traffic is much less.

Cost of feeding
Miscellaneous Expenses like Bet9ja, beers, Olosho (if u carry).
Let me say 150-250k
for singles or married. If married, a family of how many?

No amount is enough. 50k for a minimum and being contempted with your earning solves a lot of problem.
50k or you mean to say 500k.

Why spend 2m for accommodation? I think that's outrageous

If you make 700k a month, you
can afford a 1.5 to 2m house in
Lagos. Abi you prefer to get a 900k
3 bedroom house, far away from your
work and be spending 80k monthly on fuel and hold up ❓

Remember that when APC wins,
petrol will become N800/ litre.⛽️⛽️

What you don't know is, someone earning 1.5m monthly will be in his own house, not in a 2.5m rented apartment..... He can collect a room self contain close to his work, put family in his built house and be visiting them when chanced.... Only a rich person will be paying 2.5m house rent, not a salary earner....

Salary is not for life, so u won't see anyone collecting such amount and waste it on house rent.

Several factors to consider:

1. Nature of work, ie remote, onsite, hybrid
2. Distance of work to place of residence
3. Location of residence.

If for instance, you live somewhere in Alimosho, say Iyana ipaja and have a job in Ikeja that requires you go to work 5 times a week from 8am to 4pm, then you'd know that you're spending around 1500 everyday on transport fare. Multiplied by 20, that's N30,000 just for transport fare. Provided you live alone and don't have mouth to feed, and don't need to eat expensively. You can manage with 30,000 a month for food. If you're living in a self contain where you have to pay around 250,000 annually. Then you're expected to save around 20,800 every month.
Emergency fund should not be less than 10,000. And 10,000 for miscellaneous.

That's:

30,000 + 30,000 + 20,800 + 10,000 + 10,000 = 100,800. So you need roughly 100,000 to live an average life in Lagos

Don't overblow things.

How extravagant are you if you have to spread the tentacles of your pessimism this much?

People with families live just fine on 200k salaries (depending on what part of Lagos). 1m monthly is enough to feed some streets in this same Lagos.

Let's be moderate as much as possible when answering questions. That was overboard!

200k isn't actually enough for a family.

Yes, that's the barest minimum to live an independent life. If you want to go out, eat out, attend an event, take short vacations, have a girlfriend, be the provider for your family, take on personal projects, enagage in extra curricular activities, take trips, all these cost more. But if you're the person that moves from work to house and repeat. Then 100,000 would do you just fine. But as a man, I feel like your earnings need to start at 150,000 for the barest minimum.

150k is not enough to start a family. Except if it's just a man and wife and said wife is earning part of the income.

Cost of living differs.. Ranging from Enugu to Lagos to Calabar to Edo to Abuja. A man whobeaens 150k in awka can survive compare earning 150k in Lagos. For instance i live in 2bed room apartment in awka for 150k. I can walk to my office and earn abv 500k monthly u cant compare that to someone living in Lagos...

A B C differs...

For a single guy at least #1.5million per month for average good living.

Married man with 4 children at least #9million per month.

Edit: some mumu boys dey quote and troll me as if they didn't read the title of the thread, or maybe they didn't see "good living" in the question.
#1.5million is just $2k @ a rate of #750/$1....in most places $2k per month is nothing.

We know your type grin

200k isn't actually enough for a family.

Lol. It's either you're too privileged to know what is up or you're too naive to relate.

Well, about 90 percent of all classes of working class in Lagos earn less than 200k. How much do you think these private school teachers or average office workers earn. Not to talk of police men, level 8 to 10 civil servants, etc. Some of them are able to raise their children, acquire properties (low-cost maybe), etc.

I know a number of teachers who raise their families on a salary of less than 100k. Family of five, six, etc.

This isn't the best and prolly isn't your reality, but people live fairly well on 200k and less...

Depends on the kind of life style you want.

Take Ibadan for example , as a single guy , you can live a good life with 300k monthly .

But generally in Nigeria 500k should do.
Everything depends on how much bills and mouths you cater for. A single guy earning 400k might have more savings than a family of 5 earning 1m.

At the end of the day, what you’re able to save and how you sabi manage na him be koko.
Some families of 4 live on 150k salary and they still manage to build house , buy car and live life

By good living I believe we are talking of being able to:
-Eat 3 square meals,
-Living in a good house
-Abilty to pay for your bills (Subs, and electricity)
-Paying for your kids' school fees
-Ability to afford moderate dresses and
-Being mobile enough to go to work or any other important places among others

As for how much the above require, we will still need to consider other important factors eg your family size, general commodity prices and place of resident . So to be safe assuming one resides in Lagos, a salary of N500,000 for an average man should be manageable provided one doesn't to carry Omo Olosho or drink beers
