My father is late. I live with my mother and siblings and we have been surviving on our small fruit business. I hawk banana, plantain, pineapple and so own. I finished secondary school 4 years ago but since no money to further, I joined my mother in the fruit business. I was to go learn fashion design this year but a woman who was once a woman-friend to a man in my home town came to the village to see her friend when she saw me and showed interest in me. So she met my mum and told her that I should follow her to Lagos to help her in her business, that after a year, she will put me in a nice fashion design school. That was like a saviour coming through for me. Living in the city and doing fashion design, that was my dream. So my mum agreed to it and I left with her to Lagos on Sunday morning. That was 22nd of January.

In Lagos, I stayed in her place for 3 days and she didn't take me to any restaurant she claimed she had.

In the evening of the 4th day which was Wednesday, she took me to one place, a hotel and we sat at the restaurant. There, she met another woman. She introduced me to her as her new girl. Later she asked me to excuse them and sit somewhere while the two of them discussed. After the discussion, she told me that her friend will show me where to sleep as her house was not ok for me to sleep that night. The woman later called a man whom I believed is the manager, he took me to the main hotel and showed me a room I will sleep. That was where I started seeing girls dressing half naked and hanging around. I also head another section where loud music was play. May be a bar or club.

On seeing that, I was afraid and I started asking myself, I hope my mind is deceiving me and I wasn't in the place to do prostitution.

The fear in me was doubled. So in the room, to my shock, the manager opened up to me that I am to join the girls in the hotel to sleep with men for money. That it is no big deal. That he understands I am a village girl who doesn't understand city life. That I will be well taken care of and lack nothing. The following day, I will be taken to the market and be buy new clothes. That there is much money in it that can change my life in a very short time. He said a lot trying to convince me.

During that time, he said normally before any girl joins the business, he would sleep with the girl first before any other person. He also said that normally the girls don't say no or reject the move and he does so for free but because he likes me, he would give me 10k to make me happy.

I was shock and confused at that point. I didn't even know when I started shading tears, asking him why my Aunty wants me to join prostitution. That prostitution wasn't why I was brought to Lagos. The man cut me off and said I should forget about all that and start work to earn money everyday to better my life. He said if I refuse, he will through me out and my madam will abandon me in the street of Lagos.

By this time, he was already touching me sexually. I am new, I don't know anybody in Lagos and I didn't even have a phone with me as she collected it from me. My mum in the village is without a phone either. Nobody to contact or anywhere to go. Since he was trying to have sex with me, I told him fine, I will do it but he should go and come back later so I can take my bath first. He left and about 5 mins later, someone came in with food for me, noodles and egg. Even though I was hungry but couldnt eat the food.

Then, my plan was to disappear from the place and God helped me to do that successfully. I ran out of the hotel and nobody catch me. I left the area far away so nobody can even find me. The next 3 days I was on the street roaming homelessly, hungry and tired. I slept in filling stations after begging the security to allow me. So the last filling station I slept, the security man told me to wait and see his manager in the morning that he may help me out. I waited, met the man and God used him to see me through. He felt bad when I told him about the problem especially as I didn't bath, eat nor sleep well the last 2 nights. He first bought food for me. He noticed my clothes were dirty and he bought top and skirt for me, and since he couldn't take me to his house for whatever reason, he took me to a guest house and paid for one hour, so I could just take my bath and change cloth. Later on, he took me to a park and book for my return. Mr. Folarin, I don't know you but God will really bless you for being so kind to me even when you didn't know me from anywhere.

So in the night, he dropped me in the park to sleep over and follow these first bus in the morning back to my place, Delta state. I have been calling him with any available number to thank him. He has talk with my mum too.

Since I returned and told my mum, she has been in shock. We went to that her friend in my home town and she denied having any idea the woman is into that kind of business. My number has been off and I don't have her number off head.

Please if you have any advice for me, drop it.

I'm sure education had eluded you. When did I wish her prostitution?? I only noted that is one of the thriving sectors in our economy today and why give out sex for free when you can give it out for money. I also wished her all the best with her fruit selling business. Any ugly situation you pray should locate me shall locate you and your family from now till the end of life.
