Those clients are an exception, the ratio of clients paying that much on Upwork is extremely rare compared to LinkedIn, it's why most freelancers do both, if anyone makes 21k on Upwork from one client then kudos to him/her
FALSE AGAIN.
The MongoDb project I handled for that client paid me that much, and it lasted for just three weeks.
Clients are willing to cough out that much if they see you’re the absolute best, and without you, their project dies.

Most freelancers are desperate, and will take pittances thrown at them.

Indians and Pakistanis the usual suspects.

Hmmm ok, I can see some high rates but not in my field, but just 2 above 5k$ , I guess there's more to be done. Thanks

That changes my view on high rate on Upwork

Yes for entry-level people Upworks is good, but if you have experience LinkedIn is better, No Upwork gig is paying you 5000$ monthly.

Well said. Upwork is good for a newbie. At least you learn the basics of remote work. After that you gain confidence and update your LinkedIn bio for full-time roles. There are clients that pay well on Upwork, but it is to a minute niche and the clients themselves are not the majority. But for a Nigerian in Nigeria, $1000 sef is life changing for most. cheesy

Actually there are gigs that pays that much ( even more), jobs like that are not just much. My last upwork gig was *REDACTED* with 30hrs weekly limit ( but i was never able to work for 30hrs because i had 2 other full time jobs ). My problem with upwork/freelancing is that you have to work to get paid unlike a full time job where you can go days without working ( because there is no work), even take paid leave and at the end of the month, you get your full salary. It’s because of these reasons I haven’t used upwork in months and mainly focused on my full time job ( which i got on linkendin with relocation )

Same here, I have a full-time remote job, but I hired an intern, he does the Ui I just focus on the code, but I want the intern to become his own freelancer and full-time dev in the future.

What are all of u saying in this thread, it is not d same upwork I am using, no job for newbie, I have watch YouTube video on how to write very good proposal as a data entry clerk, I have not gotten a single interview, most scammer will want to communicate with u outside upwork, by dropping their telegram link on job description and wen u chat dem they will ask for money to secure d job and many odas who post jobs on upwork has not make any payment which is turn off for me also, maybe u guys start upwork like 3-4 years ago wen upwork was still upwork and now u are all in expert level where u can get jobs easily.. But getting jobs as a newbie nw is almost impossible....

In getting jobs with better pay, I agree with you that LinkedIn is better. Most clients on Upwork lowball freelancers because they know they can always get someone else to do the job for less, Only the "JJC" and enterprise clients pay freelancers really well. But IMO compared to Linkedin, Upwork still remains the best place for entry-levels to get a job, If they research and spend quality time experimenting with different proposals, bio, and portfolio formats.
good evening, I will need to get your contact to guild me on how to get job easily on upwork

I'll advise you to find a niche, and research what other Nigerians are doing on Upworks, Google search helps a lot, it's what I did. Data Entry can be automated these days.

data entry? Good luck jotting it out with the sea waves of Indians, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis.

I consider that job the lowest of the lows when it comes to remote jobs.

Note, I don't know.

There is this problem I run into when trying to advise people. How to earn legitimately and be self-sufficient, despite the fact that everything seems to be against them personally currently.

Providing services online usually involves having some degree of skill and a market to sell those skills. Marketplaces to sell those skills are already saturated and to those that have more (in this case experience), more will be given. The factors you can control are probably the time you invest into upskilling and becoming a jack of several trades. However, this usually involves time-consuming unrewarded labour that may or may not pay off.

How do you tell someone that they need to pick up coding when regular data is a problem and they don't even have a PC of their own? I have run into this conundrum many times this year.

NB. I am sure there are several skills that are not related to code. I have a narrow vision because of my experience, so forgive me.

Got 2 jobs less than 12 days after joining Upwork. Although one of the jobs had more than 3 freelancers. I am very specific and greedy with jobs I apply to. I sometimes apply to only 1 job or 2 a day. Pick 4 hours daily to check all newly posted works by verified accounts. Avoid jobs of over 4 connects until you build your profile.

Your proposal should outline "how you can produce a beneficial, practical and cost-effective work to the client.". I have never used a particular proposal sheet and write them as they suit me and the client.

Be always prepared. Turn on your availability badge and have data to check for responses to proposal often( I have lost 2 jobs to this)

pretty sure you've lost good jobs ignoring jobs from unverified accounts.

Unverified accounts are just clients who newly join upwork without hiring, and they are the real payment masters when it comes to pricing, because they don't have any clues on what the original prices should be.

Speaking from experience.

Is upwork now a scam, or just hard for newbies to get job, I started upwork December last year, up still now I have not been able to get any job there. Almost exhausted my connect in writing world catching proposal but nobody has invite me for interview nor to talk of hired
What makes you think your proposals are world catching? Do you have a niche? Do you have samples or a portfolio?

He's asking you a simple question and you've resorted to "ratio-ing" him. The fastest way to find solution(s) to a particular problem is to be open minded about the problem.

For those who registered the individual TIN on their website, how long did it take to get a number? I applied since and am yet to get any TIN (I have only the request ID)

I also saw somewhere that I need to visit a local FIRS office to finalize the registration. Can anyone shed more light
