Turkey’s interior minister, Süleyman Soylu, said that at least three people were killed and 213 wounded by the latest quakes, after a large government hospital in the city of İskenderun in the north of Hatay province declared it was evacuating patients. Groundwater carries radiation risk for North Korean cities near nuke test site, rights group says Tens of thousands of North Koreans and people in South Korea, Japan and China could be exposed to radioactive materials spread through groundwater from an underground nuclear test site, a Seoul-based human rights group said in a report on Tuesday. North Korea secretly conducted six tests of nuclear weapons at the Punggye-ri site in the mountainous North Hamgyong Province between 2006 and 2017, according to the U.S. and South Korean governments. The study by the Transitional Justice Working Group said radioactive materials could have spread across eight cities and counties near the site, where more than 1 million North Koreans live, and where groundwater is used in everyday lives including drinking. It also said that neighbouring South Korea, China and Japan might be at risk due partly to agricultural and fisheries products smuggled from the North. (Reuters) |

French expert says Istanbul will be hit by 7.6 magnitude earthquake A French researcher who has been monitoring sysmic activity in Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul, for 23 years said he expected a possible 7.6 magnitude earthquake. French geophysicist Xavier Le Pichon said in an interview with the Turkish newspaper Haberturk that he had failed to explain the seriousness of the situation to the authorities and the population. Le Pichon also shared his predictions about possible earthquakes in Istanbul. “The different regions of Istanbul will be affected differently by the earthquake. There are many Turkish and Chinese researchers working on this issue. It is important that building codes are in line with these estimates and that rules and regulations are followed. Regulations that are not observed and followed by people are useless” He added. “I believe that there will be one earthquake in the Marmara region, and it will be 7.6 magnitude. I know that all my colleagues do not think so. They think there will be 2 or 3 earthquakes. We will see who history will prove right.” |

For those of you who can’t understand the logic of this man and/or that country, one must study history. In 1943 the Russian Red Army fought the Nazis in the Donbas region and eventually liberated Donetsk from them. Two high ranking Israeli political figures, one from the coalition and the other from the opposition:, Yuli Edelstein and Zeev Elkin, are visiting Kiev and met with Zelenskyy yesterday. This morning they published a joint statement that will no doubt get Israel in trouble with the Russians: “The State of Israel as part of the Western community and as a country that knows very well the meaning of defending its independence with weapons in hand in the fight against unjust aggression and continuous shelling of the civilian population, cannot stand by at this time. Israel has provided and will continue to provide extensive humanitarian aid to Ukraine, but, in our opinion, it is not enough. Israel needs to significantly increase its support for Ukraine, Israel can and should do much more than it has done so far. We must stop being afraid, and take an active unequivocal position in accordance with the basic moral values, as expected from any western country. We must assist Ukraine in all areas where Israeli technologies, including military ones, can help protect the civilian population, its freedom and independence. There are moments in world history when you cannot sit on two chairs. We support practical cooperation between Israel and Ukraine in the field of air defense and anti-missile defense and in other defensive fields. The strengthening of the alliance between Iran and Russia threatens the security not only of Ukraine, but also of Israel. Israel and Ukraine must jointly take immediate steps to curb this axis of evil.”
