I just arrived my village for Tomorrow's general election. Now my Dad is telling me that one PDP guy who always served as an agent in my unit as issue a threat through the towncrier and the village head that any one who do not vote for PDP will be killed. This is the same guy that shoot one APC agent in the 2019 election.

There are young men in that village who have worked for PDP for a decade. By permutation, next year may be their turn to be let's say councilors or ward chairmen.

How do you come back from the city to explain to them to surrender their area of control to someone who won't compensate them for everything they've invested.

To them e be like to be expelled from university after studying medicine for 6 years. It's their entire hope and ambition. The elders of the community will side with them because you'll return to the city latest on Monday while they contend with the aftermath of "betraying" the party faithfuls.

That's the exact pattern of politics in the South South.

For the umpteenth time, Obi will win mostly urban votes. Let's face it, the political players gave up their State capitals to concentrate in the hinterlands.

My family are APC stakeholders in the South South. I've eavesdropped on political conversations in my family's living room since childhood lol.

I know what an APC with federal might passed through to penetrate the South South but we still failed. You couldn't even negotiate with the stakeholders because the incumbent government always promise more.

This is where defection plays an important role. When their local stakeholders defect, its more like "I'm not hiding to chop with this party behind your back. He's promised us this and that more than what PDP promised us. We're going with this new party."

The politicians trust these places because they produce block votes. They adopt a candidate and its compulsory to vote for that candidate. It's undemocratic, but that's the reality of what election looks like in Rural South South communities.

I wanted to state this but you've explained it perfectly. Consultation of wards come with stuffs like tubers of yams, bags of rice, beans and money to shared across.

That's an offer. If you reject, you're an outcast, if you accept, but don't give them the vote on election day, you're a traitor.

You don't know how rural communities work. That's most likely a PDP State.
