I'm considering buying an Elantra 2015 model with a bad engine. The car was bought new 2 years ago but now the engine makes terrible sound, and it's beyond repair.

I was told the engine costs about 650k but the prices I see online on Jiji are about 800k. Someone also told me if I'm getting a new engine, I will also need to change the gear system too.

Please bosses, I need professional advices.

Personally I didn’t want to touch the engine cos I fear it cant go back to the original state once an engine is looses. But there is no money to sell and buy another car… so I’m left with option 3.

Hope option 3 will/can give ne the tokunbo vibe… cos that’s what Shola mechanic is claiming

Depends on who is doing the job, and the parts used.

number 2 is the only best option if u actually know a Japanese built engine and note they might sell a 1az engine to u as 2az. Open eyes well

rebuilding an engine with its original is almost as buying another one, so make ur findings wells o brfore u embark on a tearful journey

01 to 03 automatic get factory issues though it may have been fixed

04 and 05 was okay.

for me do proper inspection of the vehicle you are about to buy. If the transmission isnt in order then know the specimen you are testing has the brainbox defect that kills transmission.

Just replace piston rings and valve stem seals. It's something we do all the time

i use an 08 camry too... I think option 2 is the best way to go and if you don't have the means yet, continue with option 1 but expect to top up at 600mils interval and drain at 2k miles.
That's how I've been using mine till i decide to replace the engine. Rebuilding is a no no for me

80% of 2AZ engines sold in Ladipo are either 1AZ rebranded and sold as 2AZ or refurbished ones.
I'm for team rebuild for that particular engine and I give guarantee for them.

I have a Scion XB 2009 Model and the Gear has been giving me issues. I've tried to fix it twice but same problem keeps surfacing. I've been adviced to replace it.
I prefer to replace with a new one rather than Tokunbo that I'm not sure of how long it will work before packing up again. The Engine is 2AZ (Same as 2008 Camry), 13 Pin Gear. Anyone know where I can get a new gear system for this vehicle and costs?
