That has been the attitude of Nigerian drivers, they always gamble with people's lives, and end surviving accidents that occurrs due to their recklessness. That brt driver should spend at least 60 years in jail ten each for the six perons who lost their lives

What safety measures did they put in place to make sure that citizens were safe on the road?

Was there an Alarm bell in place that warns pedestrians at railway intersections whenever a train is approaching the intersection?.. (incase they have earphones on)πŸ””πŸš¨

It is really easy to point fingers but they failed in their own part to secure the lives of those motorists as well that lost their lives.. assuming there was a barrier that is automatically or manually operated, that driver wouldn't have attempted to cross 🚧🚷

In this your same Nigeria where citizens like you and me wilfully vandalize same

Nigerians and stronghead. This is accident that can be avoid, had it been the driver didn't do stronghead now, the 6 people might still be alive

H.E. Peter Obi actually said the accident was avoidable and a lot of people on here, NL insulted him, some others said accidents happens.

Fact is, some accidents are AVOIDABLE, full stop. If the BRT driver had been patient like other drivers, the accident would have been averted. So PO was right.
Quick recovery to the survivors and RIP to those who met their untimely death because of an impatient driver.

Many of us may not think deep to understand what happened. Loss of lives equals lots of Money and Favour during elections for politicians. The driver happens to be the culprit unknowing to him. Not everything is natural

I read somebody's comment yesterday that Peter obi was making political statement because he said the accident was avoidable.
Now finding have shown that the bus driver was responsible for the accident and has been arrested. Is it wrong if one says it was avoidable?

But now that we do not have this measure yet, provided that most of this train started operations like 3-4years ago. But somethings don't need measures, it need common sense, and to be frank, the driver has none, and he should be blame 100%. Do someone need to tell him that he need to stop when he see an incoming train? No, even 200m away he would have been feeling the rumbling and sound of the train, and the one that happened yesterday, it's not even a corner, that means he saw the train ahead of him but he chose to pass, that's big Time stupidity and lack of sense....
I didn't study engineering but I know that everything that has to do with engineering involves safety.. and I can bet that the Railway association have HSE manager/ officer who might not even know why he was there or what his job description entails..

As for asking do someone have to tell people that a train was coming, let the organisation do their part first by preventing certain avoidable occurrence from happening first...

It seems that you guys have willingly accepted the lapses on ground are making excuses for them.. u think 4 yrs is not enough time to set things straight?

A lot of people u see behind the wheels are not psychologically sound and are dealing with many issues ... some got death wishes and are looking for a way to end it...I still believed that barrier or barricade would have helped in this case.

so Peter Obi has managed to enter this discussion. What is special about what obi said? Yes it is avoidable. Did you need obi to tell u? Do you need sanwo olu to tell you? You need politicians to tell u how to think?

Nobody's life or property attracts any respect on the streets of Lagos at all. If you like, buy a brand new, gleaming 2022 G Wagon. On a traffic situation you will watch from your side mirror as a keke Marwa rider deliberately scratches it from behind all the way to the front, believing your tinted glasses will prevent you from seeing what he's doing to you.

Have you noticed that Nigerian drivers increase speed once from a good distance they see pedestrians waiting at a zebra crossing? What about a riff raff, drunk danfo or korope driver doing a dangerous overtaking not minding that breadwinners of families are on board his vehicle?

I was gutted the day I saw okada riders speeding on the one way (illegal lane) as they constantly do. One if them knocked down a school pupil trying to cross the road not knowing that one mad adult was speeding along on the wrong lane.

When the rider stopped and picked up the little boy, he was visibly in great pain in one of his ankles, blood dripping from his right elbow. The man was only smiling, petting the boy and trying to show everybody that there was no injury and hurrying him to stop crying and pretend was well with him.

A few people including me had gathered at the spot and the first question should have been; why are you on this side of the road speeding in the wrong direction with many school children trekking their way from school? Where is the nearest police station? You must foot the hospital bill of this boy and pray he doesn't have a fracture. But what was I hearing?

Ah Ah you supposed to slow down when you see children crossing, you no get pikin for house?
Madam give us pure water make we clean the blood on his uniform,
Next time learn to slow down,
Small boy you dey live?
Na God save you o,
Go to your mummy tell her to use hot water and aboniki,
Oya tell him sorry,
The man don beg you make you dey go.

And the Okada man sped off in the wrong direction.

And the poor little boy sat on the embankment by the side of the road for minutes clutching his limb, checking his elbow and his body sobbing. Then he limped along the road with swollen ankle, bleeding elbow and teary eyes.

And life continued.

I don't know what he was thinking..

It's just impatience and morning rush that has been the attributes of average Lagos Drivers...private cars owners inclusive..

For anyone that knows that PWD inward Ikeja GRA very well...loads of traffic crossing the rail into Ikeja GRA..

Ideally, car drivers should be patient, and ensure their cars can effectively cross the rail before attempting to cross...but, in most cases, because of the rush and bumper to bumper driving, many drivers flout this simple safety precautions
Let the government do the needful
There should be a gate preventing vehicular movement at least 3 minutes before the train gets to about 300 meters mark before the road block.

my point is this, just blame the driver for his impatience, all you mentioned above are already in order for a train to pass through a busy city like lagos, even the deaf can hear the blaring of horn also there are barricades on the railway, that was i asked if you live in Lagos or any other states that uses train as a means of transportation
So you are saying that there are barricades in that particular intersection.. is that what you are telling me...

How did he managed to Cross it then if truly there was a functioning one?

Typical Nigerian and hurry hurry mentality

Yes the bolded is correct.

Plus this I'm smarter than you syndrome. A Keke driver came suddenly from my right to cross in front of me into the turning on my left hand side. I almost hit the idiot! And he had school kids and others there with him.

Commercial drivers are the most careless be they okada riders, cabs, danfo, molue etc. Those alcohols and Igbo they shirk very early is mainly the cause. It impairs their sense of reasoning

Precisely...no HSE of any sort.

What happened to barriers that come down to deter drivers?

Over here, we are taught to consider every other driver as a mad man...that way, you don't expect them to act right but you act to save your life.

All the time I lived in lagos, never saw that barrier at rail crossings...at least not on the mainland...dunno about the island.

Educated illiteracy everywhere, the same way a woman destroyed herself in Abuja last year

The profit of wisdom is to preserve life,

How do you imagines somebody claimed to be

Educated but willfully wasting their lives

And even others, simply because "don't want to late" or "am in a hurry". Sympathies for those whose loved ones were involved.

RIP to the dead.

My answers are yes to all questions raised about the NRC. So many measures are on ground to ensure safety but defiance on the part of motorist is the major cause of many of this accident

We are not law abiding in any form.... Even inside Nigerian yard where neighbors have their own balconies, u go still see one heady neighbor carry chair come sitdon for your balcony dey make noise with guys leaving his own, meaning he is paying rent for one but enjoying almost 2 flats.

sensible post.

Lawyers will easily get the driver out if they follow this logic.

Nigeria railways just over doing nonsense.

All railine intersections in Nigeria donot have barricade or warning sign, but they want Nigerians to bare the brunt for that.

Maybe it's time to hold some people accountable especially in terms of service delivery... Willingly accepting what is thrown at you should be a thing of the past especially when you are a tax payer..

I still believe that the Nigerian railway association owe the citizens the duty of care by protecting them... Whether you look after yourself or not...

Besides, I believe a lot of citizens behind the wheels got mental health issues no one knows about.. it's the responsibility of the railway association to make sure such individual or individuals do not endanger others as well as themselves... That's the duty of care I am talking about...

People jump red lights everywhere around the world.. it's not really new...
In three days time, you will see a ticket waiting for you at your mailbox with clear pictures of your plate number, time of offence and a bit of the driver's face.. if you can proof that you were not the one driving at that point, u meet them in court...

I can't believe you were asking the sign that others saw before they stopped though.. u think everyone thinks the same?
Ok to answer your question, To make every one act the same, u put some barrier or an obstruction to make everyone comply in situations like that..

Do people jump red light all over the world because of lack of signs?, whilst others are on the same red light waiting and another comes jump it and involves in a crash, so will you blame it on lack of no signs or driver?

The point is no matter the measures put in place some drivers seems not to care, that's why one way signs will be there yet some drivers will still go ahead drive the one way and knock people down then turn and blame on Devil and you won't hear them say is due to lack of sings.

Do you think people commits crimes because of lack of laws?
