THE DESPERATE DESIRE TO SURVIVE

The 1967 civil war between Nigeria and Biafra which was mostly fought on Igbo side had its own merits and demerits to the Igbo race.

Yes, Igbos lost thousands if not millions of their population to the civil war, mostly as a result of Awolowo's infamous starvation policy, but I can boldly tell you that that 1967 civil war also helped the Igbo race to expand their coast beyond Eastern Nigeria, which makes it impossible today for any nation or nations to wipe out or decimate the Igbo race like in the 1967.

After civil war ended, a lot of policies were made to impoverish and punish the Igbo man for ever trying to secede from Nigeria without the permission of the British government. This caused untold hardship among Igbos. Prominent Igbos who were once rich before the war broke out were plunged into poverty and lack. Personally, my own family were among the rich class who had people already working with the Europeans as Railway Engineers, Missionaries, top Military officers in the Nigerian Army, but all that and more were lost during and after the war.

This further increased the fighting spirit of the Igbo man as every Igbo son became more desperate to succeed to help his family line to continue, all these led to increased crime, mass migration outside Nigeria and some Igbos had to develop even a more daring spirit such that they had to relocate to other parts of Nigeria, even to communities that masterminded the 1966 Northern pogrom. The Igbo man became more fearless because he has seen worse situation during the civil war and was ready to dare the worst and die in the process.

All these taught the Igbo man to be patient, which is why you see an Igbo person open a small shop in a lonely area and everyday he comes out to stay in that his small shop staring at passersby and exchanging greetings with the locals without getting tired or angry that he hasn't sold for the day. He is ready to stay there selling his goods one per day, till he empties his stock and repeats and over time you see his shop transform to a mega mall and you see those locals that once saw him as a fool envy him and say all sorts of rubbish about his success.

To be continued..... cool

I am here today to share some open secrets why Igbos seem to succeed in every business and dominate trade in most communities inside and outside Nigeria that they do business.

Before I forge ahead, I would love to tell you to forget whatever unfounded rumours you have heard or believed before now that it is the reason Igbos dominate trade and other businesses in most communities they travel to.

It has nothing to do with African magic popularly known as juju or charms, neither does it have anything to do with selling fake products like many wrongly believe. And it also has nothing to do with pushing hard drugs even though a lot of unscrupulous Igbo boys who lack information and good reasoning ability allow themselves to be hoodwinked into believing that the only way they can make it in life is by trafficking hard drugs in some countries, this is really a damaging representation of the entrepreneurial Igbo race and we are working very hard to correct this anomaly as I and some notable Igbos continue with our grassroot study of the situation to enable us find a lasting solution by reaching out to Igbo youths in the most effective ways to let them know the dangers of drug trafficking and other social vices.

Give us time, we are definitely going to tackle this, and thank God Igbos are gradually having a footprint in the media sector to be able to tell our own stories that was hitherto wrongly told or fabricated by enemies of Igbos who used media propaganda as tools to demarket Igbos for political gains.

Rubbish mindset. Nothing like what you just spewed.

"Greed" makes Africans leave their continent and migrate to another man's country in search of "greener (greedy) pastures, "greed" makes them want to reap where they did not sow

ANOTHER REASON IGBOS SUCCEED IN BUSINESS IS THE ONYE AHALA NWANNE YA PRACTICE IN IGBO CULTURE

"Onye ahala nwanne ya" is a brotherhood culture amongst the Igbos, especially when they travel outside Igbo land. Even though some unscrupulous igbos took negative advantage of this to rip off fellow Igbos which reduced the spread and practice of this old culture that helped Igbos grow faster in business and trade in and outside Nigeria.

This onye ahala nwanne ya practice is almost similar to "igba boi" practice, a popular igbo apprenticeship culture that also helped many Igbos to startup their own successful business from scratch.

How many other Nigerian tribe can take the risk of boarding locally made rickety boats to migrate through Atlantic ocean to a country within Africa, not Europe just to go start small trading business to survive? hundreds if not thousands of Igbos made this dangerous journey to Gabon and even Cameroon.

Anybody that have such brave heart can do and undo.

Onye ahala nwanne ya practice made many successful Igbo traders to pickup fellow Igbos for apprenticeship and from there they learned the intricacies of the trade and then started their own successful trade or business.

The owner of Young Shall Grow Motors, one of the dollar billionaires in Nigeria today, started through serving and working as a driver for another successful Igbo transporter in the 70s.

It is also this informal onye ahala nwanne ya practice that make Igbos that traveled to some countries to return back to their hometowns to pickup or encourage their kinsmen to come over, and from there they grow a community of successful Igbo business owners.

This is why I laugh whenever they say Igbos are not United. Yes Igbos are not politically united when a suspicious and unworthy Igbo politician tries to use Igbos for his selfish political gains. But once Igbos trust you, they will follow you massively as we all can see in the case of Peter Obi

Have you ever visited Igbo land before and take time to visit some popular Igbo towns and communities or are you relying on hearsay about Igbo land being a slum?

My brother, if you visit Nnewi, which is just a town not even a capital city of the state, you will be shocked with the level of heavy industrialization there.

You can also visit Ogidi village or Mbaise or Abiriba in Abia state or Emene Enugu or Independence Layout Enugu (which can be compared to Ikoyi Lagos) or New Owerri Imo state (which is almost like Ikoyi and Lekki phase 1).

My own hometown have more modern mansions than Ikeja. If you visit my village, you will be shocked. Though the environment will be quiet due to low or no much economic activities because its not a city but a village, but when it comes to beautiful, modern houses and amenities, then my village beat a lot of areas in Lagos and Abuja cos we have modern market, modern community health center, modern community townhalls, modern community football pitches, good road networks, and guess what? All were built by individuals and our community development union.

This is why Igbos have been crying about federal marginalization in constructing federal roads, security and other social amenities that only federal government can do.

As for state governments in the East, most have not performed excellently and to be frank with you, Igbos are not happy about it but unfortunately, the corrupt electoral system in Nigeria give criminal politicians an edge over credible Igbos which is why corrupt criminal politicians end up becoming Governors in Southeast and when we try to fight them, they form alliance with Hausa-Fulani controlled federal government who then uses federal institutions to support them and suppress our will.

You can see what happened in Imo State during the last election where Supreme court installed the man Imolites rejected during election as the Governor. Imo people tried to protest but they used soldiers and Police to kill protesters and quench it.

The only reason they succeed is their adequate knowledge for the business they start.

A child who starts boy-boy (apprenticeship) at the age of 10 would have acquired 15 years of experience by the time he turns 25.

That's 15 years of experience learning. Complete preparedness!!! Why won't the chances of success be high when he/she has learned so much about the business before starting up?

Igbos own Nigeria's transport sector, you already know that.

Yorubas are currently leading in higher education business.

Igbos are leading in hospitality industry in Nigeria.

Igbos are leading in manufacturing, forget the fact that Aliko Dangote and BUA owns the most visible or richest manufacturing firms, but when it comes to number of manufacturing plants in Nigeria, Igbos own the highest number.

Legal, I don't have enough information on this but I think Yorubas should be leading here.

Some have grown so big and then expanded to Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, but you will never believe they started from Nnewi.

Many industries are producing their own power now to complement federal power supply.

I have been to all Southsouth states.

This is the normal life of most Igbo men.

Can the same be said about an average Yoruba person who always claim that life starts and end in Lagos?

I know Southwest communities and LGA more than some Yorubas cos most don't ever visit their hometowns once they leave the Yoruba hometown to Lagos or abroad, as they always claim that village witches will kill them, you know this.

I have been to few Northern states like Kaduna, Plateau, Abuja, Nasarawa, Benue and Kogi.

I have been to all Southsouth states.

This is the normal life of most Igbo men.

Can the same be said about an average Yoruba person who always claim that life starts and end in Lagos?

As for Nnewi, just ask people about Nnewi and industrialization. or plan a visit there to see things yourself cos I don't think I can convince you with whatever I say here

If we have to ask people it is a lie

Tell us one thing we buy daily from Nnewi is it Omo ,indomie ,Gala or what?
Stop the hype
Different Nigerians have areas they make their money. Igbos are good at container and warehouse.Yoruba are good at cerebral things like Insurance,IT,Banking,Finance,Consulting and Legal.Hausa are good in agriculture
Make we hear word.

That's criminal activity not greed of an ethnic nation ...but let's assume you are right ... would it not be sensible to allow Igbos leave Nigeria and have their own country to themselves ? Or you fight for your own nation or restructure back to regional system
.

no one is stopping your movement, you can leave and go back to the east no one gives fvck
