Please 🥺 I need advice. Since I graduated from University of Benin in 2011, I have not had a good job. I also have a Masters degree from same Uni. I reside in Warri in Delta State. I also own a diploma in theology, that means have been to bible school. Have been teaching in different private schools since 2011. Am 34 now will be 35 in few months time. Lots of people are putting pressure on me to get married but I am scared I can't sustain a family with my meagre private school teacher's salary. Am considering relocating to Abuja to see if I could get a better life with my credentials. I don't know how life really is over there? If I could get a better job? even if it's a good private school that pays well. What's the cost of accommodation? Am just trying to take a leap of faith. Though it seems late, but better late than never. I just feel a change in environment would be better because help is not forth coming from anywhere. I could also work as a pastor in a church if I can get accommodation. Someone please help me I need counsel. Thank you in anticipation 🙏. I have been thinking 🤔 too much lately. Seems like am running out of time cos most of my mates are already married and settled. Help a brother. Am Esan by tribe but born and brought up in Warri. Am like a burden to my aged parents right now because I still live with them and feed from them. I have savings of up to 150k. Keep the advice coming please. Should I just rent a small house in Warri and be managing things or I should relocate to Abuja ? Or even Lagos? I know I am brilliant because I graduated with a second class upper grade with a 4. Point CGPA in biochemistry. I can speak fluently and can defend my certificate but have not been really lucky with jobs. Have spent t fare attending different interviews in Lagos in the past I had to give up and stop coupled with he fact that the age factor isn't on my side anymore.

If you have a four point in biochemistry, I would advise you to seek scholarships for a Phd since you already have a masters and leave the country o.

A full scholarship covers everything including tickets and stipends. Going to abuja is just a waste.

Op should consider this seriously, and I wish you would sincerely and genuinely help him out in that regard, if possible.

His situation/story is really tear-inducing, and that, unfortunately, is the story of millions of other graduates in Nigeria.

May God help them all

Yes. A full scholarship covers everything. Research and don't jump to conclusions.

Let me teach you a little bit about critical thinking and communication...

When you see someone write something you strongly doubt or are surprised about, you don't outrightly say it is a lie. Rather, you ask, "how possible is it?" "Do you have evidence to support your statement/claim?" "How come it is done?" "What are the examples of such?" Alternatively, you conduct your research to confirm if what the person said is true. Both of you are on the Internet, so opening another tab should not be hard. You then Google "scholarships that sponsor student's tuition fees, living expenses and flight tickets to and fro". You would get results and learn one or two things.

Now to your disclaimer. You are wrong about it. There are MANY scholarships that cover everything from flights to settling down to living expenses to tuition fees. I hobnob with these people daily and yes, they are Nigerians. I even guided a Nairalander on the nitty-gritty involved when he arrived the country. The organisation SPONSORED everything from start to finish.

Our society promotes poverty and mediocrity. Why are they forcing a young man (yes, in the institution of marriage using marital age globally, as a man, you are young) to marry when he does not have a stable source of income? I can understand pressuring you to marry or bear children if you were in South Korea or Singapore (due to low birth rates), but then, even Koreans and Singaporean males would rather remain single than bring children into a financially unstable environment. They are not offering pieces of invaluable advice to earn a good income but are looking at marriage.

Honestly, when I read that line, I got angry. You needed to see my reaction. angry

Like Tensa20 has said, it is pointless going to Abuja, especially if you are not guaranteed a place to live free of charge. Good, you have 150K, continue saving. This is what you should do:

Those your married and well-to-do mates, try to seek financial assistance from them to finance your postgraduate studies by doing a PhD in a developed country. I would say target the US because it has many scholarships even in tier 3 universities - who would be ecstatic to have you as a student. You need to do your research painstakingly. Ask your mates who have relocated via studies to assist you with payments, recommendations and tips. If any is in academia, seek his/her assistance in recommending you to a professor or faculty member. On your part, save, be disciplined and be focused.

P.S. This is exactly what a close friend did; he is in Canada today. Although a first-class graduate and in his late twenties, his financial situation is exactly like yours. He rallied around for financial assistance (I supported him, too), got the admission through a friend of his erstwhile professor in Canada, got fully funded (aka no tuition fees but with a monthly stipend), and rallied again for flight ticket and visa expenses (again, I supported him). Thankfully, he is in Canada today. Determination and perseverance = success. Even me sef beckoned on people I knew for assistance to pay application fees due to CBN issue or give me advice for the application process. You need to get into that network ASAP. It is there, you just need to ask. There would be rejections here and there but ask. In my case, the dude called me one day that he had an emergency and I should be of assistance. This was after asking almost everyone he knew and no positive response. Today, he is in Canada. If he can do it, anyone can.

No need to go to Abuja, it would be too expensive if you don't have a place to stay. No matter how much you get paid, it comes down to square one due to increased living costs. You have a place to stay and free food - which means you have little overhead costs.

Good day Gerrard,
I plan on leaving the country on a work visa. I already have my Masters degree from a university here in Nigeria and a couple of work experiences here and there. After a much needed soul search, I wouldn’t want to go back to school plus I’m at an age where I need to support my parents financially and wouldn’t want to but the burden of a Phd funding on them.
I recently made the decision to travel about a week and most of the work visa agencies I have come across haven’t seem authentic enough.
My question is: Do you know any legitimate work visa packages(I’m not country specific) or agencies that run such packages? Thank you.

From the beginning of my post, you can see where I asked how?, where and when? Isn't it. That should answer your first paragraph.

For the second paragraph. Please post links to LinkedIn post or university publication of the schools that pays for flight of students.

I myself schooled abroad, US to be precised so I know about funding, GA, on campus jobs, RA and the likes which I am not disputing. The fact I am disputing is university paying for your flight. Please post links and proofs.

The university will also pay for entrance exams like GRE, GMAT, IELTS, TOEFL and the likes right?,
The university will also pay for WES or any other credentials evaluation right?
The university will also pay for SEVIS or any other body in the proposed country for him right?

That reminds me too, the university will also pay for his visa application fees, police certificate (if required) and also lodge him in 5 star hotel too shey?.

The university will even do shoppings for him before boarding his free flight too I guess.

The university will even pay his passport fees at Nigeria immigration service as well.

Uncle. I am a realist and do not live in fantasy island. 150k naira savings (about $200 ) WILL NOT DO ANY SHIT in international admission. That's even tier 2 schools application fees alone in the US

Change of environment is very important when you are faced with social and financial pressure.

Plateau State(Jos in particular) is an ideal place for you to relocate. The cost of living is cheaper in Jos than in Warri and Abuja.

When, you get to Jos;just look for daily pay jobs that pay more than salary jobs.

Just forget about your certificate for the now. That your certificate is like an hindrance.

He is experiencing societal pressure because he has refused to change environment where he is used to familiar faces.

Why do the Northerners migrate from the North to the South to do the same job they were ashamed of doing in the North?

Migration is necessary for a fresh start in life.

The same type(like building work) he is ashamed of doing in Warri.

I know what most graduates in Nigeria pass through in the job market in Nigeria.

Most graduates are ashamed of doing menial jobs because they have refused in changing environment. The solution is to relocate to another town, city, state or even country.

It is easier to get daily pay job in Nigeria than salary job.

Most daily pay jobs are better than salary work in Nigeria.

The goal is to start from something to get to your desired objective/target/goal.

Why not consider Amazon kdp. Find someone to teach you, it may cost you around 15k for the training. And within two month, you should be earning around 700 to 1000 dollars per month that should sustain you very well.

Make sure you consider this advice.

University education is only a scam when you only depend on your certificate for getting a job.

The experience I got while at various Nigerian universites is more beneficial to me today than the mere paper certificate that cannot do the thinking for you in the real world .

The reason why university dropouts tend to succeed is because they don't have paper certificate to rely on;rather they have their brain power to rely on.

It was in the university environment I got some of the business ideas that are earning me income today.

The brain power can still work even without university education.

Those business ideas are not exclusive to just university environment.

Those graduate struggling are not utilizing their potential to the fullest.

Why should a right thinking graduate be working as a teacher (with a pay of around N40,000) rather than going for menial job that can fetch around N150,000 to N300,000 per month?

Life is warfare and you have to fight dirty(but not like that of APC mafia party) to make good money!

Most bus drivers make a minimum of N7000 to N10,000 after expenses everyday. Some will give the excuse that they don't have a bus and cannot drive.

Why don't you start as a bus conductor? There is nothing wrong in a graduate being a conductor as long as you don't remain one forever.

Just make use of your brain power to better your life and increase the financial success of your life.Just break from the norm.

Change your environment,so that you can get dirty and achieve financial success.
