The Lagosian Perspective On Sanwo-olu's Leadership Style by Searching03(op): 12:53pm On Mar 16, 2023
It is crucial to keep in mind that the election will take place in a few days and that the media is working hard to whitewash Gov. Babajide Sanwolu, the All progressive candidate for the Lagos State Governorship election. However, I stand to be corrected that Sanwolu has failed Lagosians. He is a master showman and a leader who believes in Propaganda and Tokenism. He adores “eye service” and “Picture opportunity”.

Traffic congestion, flooding, the Agbero menace, the dirtiness problem, and the housing problem are the five main issues facing Lagos State, which he has neglected to handle for the past four years and, if I may say so, the “blue-print” has failed to address it for the past 20 years, despite the efforts of BRF and AA.

As Sanwolu appears to have fallen short of his predecessors, he has perfected the art of tokenism. He hasn't taken any action in the past four years to address Lagos's major problems. The traffic congestion has become a norm.

What about the flooding? They will claim that it is caused by global warming and if it rains for a short period of time, everything will be under water. Like I stated, he's a superb showman, but he hasn't been able to finish any of the projects he's started; instead, he only works on them for the publicity. People might spend hours traveling along the Lekki-Epe route down from the Awoyaya axis since he started the so-called extension in preparation for the electioneering period, but they are moving as slowly as a snail. The administration could have just easily fixed the road earlier, but instead he wanted the road to grow so terrible that it would coincide with electioneering period so that he would send in contractor in like a hero. How much longer will continue like this as a state? Government “Servants” are intended to complete projects since it is their responsibility, not a favor to the people!

So let's talk about the fourth mainland bridge, another showman project from a governor who took 4 years to construct a modest bridge but now promises to complete a 48Km bridge. That's just so funny!

Why would a governor commission a project that wasn't used yesterday and won't even be used in the following three months if it weren't for wickedness and politicking ? You're all aware of the Blue Rail project, which has been in the works for over ten years, it has been used a vehicle for stealing tax payers money; the government claims that $1.17 billion has been spent thus far.

Since the Agberos are an extension of the government, it is obvious that the government is doing nothing to stop them from harassing traders, bus drivers, and law-abiding Lagosians. A time will come they will soon start harassing law-abiding lagosians for walking. The Agberos are having a field day in Lagos State.

Since car thefts were becoming more common, the governor advised drivers to wind up their glasses as a solution to it. Isn’t that funnyhuh
In order to get attention, he staged a car theft arrest a week after he had said this. Like I mentioned, he is a brilliant showman.

ENDSARS, which resulted in the loss of of lives of young Nigerians. We all know what happened after he asked the military to intervene while pretending to back the youths when in reality he was against them. The ENDSARS protest took place in the majority of Southern Nigerian cities, but only Lagos recorded the murders of young Nigerians, these are young law-abiding Nigerians calling for a more accountable security establishment. They initially claimed that no one perished; later, they said that a few people perished; and last, they claimed to have no knowledge of the military action. If you can't guarantee the safety of your citizens, why are you the state's Chief Security Officer?

Do you want to discuss the flooding situation? What has been done to address the flooding issue? It's global warming, they claim. That would be the situation, and the water would respond by fighting back when developers built on natural gutters. What about the gutters? They are all blocked and not maintained.

Some people will mention the Imota rice, but I haven't seen a grain of it in the market since its introduction. A very small number of people use public funds to launch government ventures that they have a huge stake in. Every effort that does not alleviate the pain of the average person is meaningless. If the average person cannot purchase Imota rice for a lot less than what a foreign rice sells for, then the enterprise or endeavor is meaningless. All they do is export and keep the money for themselves rather than putting it into the government coffers.

What is the government doing about the rising cost of homes, there’s no more affording housing. Then what is in it for the common manhuh When Canadian real estate prices reached a certain level, the prime minister intervened and introduced policies to lower the cost. Due to their involvement in showmanship and propaganda, the current leadership has lost touch with the populace.

I'd rather support a young, compassionate leader who has sympathy for his people and has basic, doable plans for how things should be done, rather than one with public service or corruption experience. As with our own Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Alhaji Lateef Jakande. The best leaders in history had little to no experience in the public service/ corruption experience .One of the greatest prime ministers of the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill. Angela Merkel, Justin Trudeau, and one of the largest economies in the world, run by Emmanuel Macron, these great leaders had no prior experience in public service/ corruption experience but had a great deal of love and compassion for their people. Love they say is the greatest gift of all!
