I quite agree with you. It is always a person's decision to stay or advance... And sharing this with our bosses shouldn't cost us a thing. At the end we get to bear the consequences alone.

I think it also give us the opportunity to share our concerns and expectations with out boss...and if it is what they can compromise on, they offer us the option of staying or coming back if we decided we would rather come back
