What is MPR

Ok12345:
What is MPR

MPR is monetary policy rate.

MPR is the interest rate at which CBN lends to commercial banks; it therefore serves as benchmark against which other lending rates in the economy are pegged.

A raised MPR means commercial bank will increase their lending rate to customers.

Fund managers will try as much as possible to raise their rate to match MPR or more. Hence a raised MPR is good news to Money market and other fixed income investments.

It's not a very good news for the stock market though the market has other factors like earnings, government policies, romours or even sentiments that can affects it.

As an investor, the nearer or better still the higher MPR is to inflation the better for your returns.

As at today, the Stanbic IBTC MMF has reacted positively to the new MPR.

If you wish to benefit from the hike in rate, kindly click the links on my signature to invest in MMF or Fixed income fund manged by Stanbic IBTC Asset mgt and SFS Capital respectively.

An investor that lost say 80% of of his investment and something happend that reduce the lost to 50% is good news even though the investor is still at a loss.

The cup is either half full or half empty depending from the way you choose to interpret what you see.
It's true inflation is at all time high but with higher rate the negative real yield is reduced to some extent.

guys how does rising interest rate affect treasury bills?

Nigerians and stupidity. You are using percentages and think you are gaining. What you don’t know is that in real terms, you are losing big time as inflation continues to bite harder. The real value of your money even with the supposed gain in percentages is less. Take that gain to the market and see what you can buy. You will buy even less than the small gains you were making before the increase in rates.

Go and learn proper economics before you open your mouth again.

So what is the way forward with an idle cash sitting in an account?.

Dear new investor, if you have a growing savings stash, don't waste any more time. Start investing. Investing is like a muscle. If you want to improve a muscle, you have to train it. You can read all the books about investing, but if you don't take action, you're still sitting on the sidelines. So consider investing as soon as you can. You can start from low-risk investments, or go high-risk from the beginning. It's more important to start than it is to start with the perfect conditions. Just start.
