YOUR OPINION IS NEEDED PLEASE.
We're currently working on getting solar street light installations/maintenance contract from the State Government.
Two things we observed from the previous installations executed by a different company.
1. Inferior/cheap products were installed. The panels attached was not large enough to adequately charge the battery and sustain it till day break. It was even worse in the raining season/the overall weather conditions in our South South Region.
2. Lack of proper maintenance/monitoring.
We're now coming up with two proposals.
1. To install quality solar street light products with at least 2 years warranty and not all these Chinese fake products that float Nigerian markets.
2. To order for lifepo4 cells/panels/inverters and other accessories, assemble them, build sub stations in different locations and use them to power the street light at night. Everything will be taken into consideration including energy saving bulbs/the watts/the number each major street will take to be tallied up with the lifepo4 battery, inverter/panels capacity that will power them throughout the night. Daily maintenance/monitoring will be needed for this.
Please, your opinion is needed here.
Currently, the state government is powering the street lights with diesel generator which I consider to be more costly.

who are the stakeholders first and foremost?

that is your REAL question

the officials in charge of the project may not be concerned with a good job, but with their cut. if you do not identify who these people are, and make allowances for them - they may still frustrate your project and your good intentions .

also you have to consider, how would your high quality items be protected from theft and abuse?

How do you guide against energy theft with your option 2 which is an option I am beginning to like in the light of failing street lights everywhere?

One way you can do this though is to get an inverter and bulbs that does not deliver conventional 220V, so that in the case of energy theft, it will be useless to the thief.

@ GloriouGbola, we'll look into the area of theft and abuse. Stakeholders need quality job and not the type executed by the previous company. This won't affect their interest.
I just want to know the option that will stand a taste of time.
Thanks sir.

This is a nice idea.
We were also thinking of putting fence wire around the place and position the mini substations closed to where police usually mount check point at night.
Since it's a government project, police will be fully informed through the commissioner of police to tell his boys to put eyes in those places while patrolling at night.

Good morning, I would like to set up a 1.5kva off-grid solar system with the primary usage of powering my laptop:130W, Wi-Fi 18W, portable fridge 85W, 5 energy saving bulbs, ox standing fan 54W and charging my phones.

After reading through some of the pages of this thread, I was able to come up with the list below and the likely price tag:
1 unit of Felicity FL-IVPS1512 Li 1.5kva Inverter 12V pure sine wave inverter (lithium battery wake-up function) 120k - 148k

2 units of Jinko/ Yingli Panels: 2*450 watts: 240k (Not sure you can get Jinko 450W at that price, that't price of 450W Yingli)

1 unit of 200ah Tubular Luminous battery: 170k

1 unit of Felicity Charge controller: 100k - 128k (Depending on where you buy)

1 unit of Tomzn AVR/Current limiter - 10k

1 unit of Watt Meter 15k (@zeestone99 sell this)
1 unit of Battery Rack (Max 20k)
Wires (30k - 40k)
Installation Budget (30k - 50k)

This is 806k already, you may want to up your bedget to 850k to cater for Miscellaneous.

I need someone experienced to review my list and help me arrive at the best and complete list of all the components and materials needed for the setup. I would like to set up the system in the coming days, working with a budget of 600k.

I’ll also appreciate recommendations on where to get the original components. I’m new to Solar systems but I’m curious about it. I want to purchase the items myself if possible. I might need help with the installation.

Thanks

Jinko is more expensive

Felicity charge controller is expensive. Especially d 60a variant. Buy techfine 60a from justcallemmanuel for 85k
Other items are also sold her on this thread.

ok, from what you described, it appears the streetlights are all hooked up together in a loop with cables...since you said they are powering it with generator -- this implies that you have several options to resolve this issue, based on ease, cost and maintainance....

1. first find out the wattage of each street light and the qty of lights in a loop, this will then determine the size of battery bank and inverter you would deploy to replace the genrators. theft and vandalization is the main headache, should you choose this route.

2. overhaul the design and go for standalone all in one solar street lights..the D3 series 120w or 80w by felicity is quite robust, comes with 150w solar panel and decently sized inbuilt lithium battery...cost over 150k per unit for the original...these units are quite robust, and last truout the night...but in periods of dull weather....i dont think they will light up for 3 days running.

option 1 ihas some advantages for me, if you can prevent theft and vandalization, as this option allows you oversize your battery bank, the major constraint is the site for installing the solar array powering the lights...., if you cant answer these questions well, then option 2 is the simplest and best.......just would be more expensive.

You are right.
I tilted it to the extent as if I was guarding the sun rays from escaping grin that's when I was able to get that 101 or so, without tilting it's worse, about 65-90.

So I am very sure of the figures, that's the best the panel could produce.

mangolpupa:

Bros before you confirm you're disappointment with the panel. Can you ensure

1) it's not "backing" the sun and is on an axis that harness sunrise and sunset in your location.

2) if you already have no 1 sorted. Please consider optimising the tilt angle of your panels. This often overlooked factor can mean the difference between generating 100WH and 130WH in the same position.

Try this first before concluding (this is assuming you've not tried it).

All the best my oga.
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by viperVIP: 5:16am On Mar 29, 2023
A little secret here, an engineer in this same company once told me they have a series when loaded beyond 50% of its capacity, would result in overloading.

So I ran for my life grin

vta2008:

Before I bought mine from PRAG, I did reverse Google image search and saw that omo all of these stabilizers and most inverters dey Alibaba. They just slap their names on the product and call it a day.

Even the manuals tell everything. Very poor English as though they couldn't pay a Chinese man with proper English skills to do the translation.

Quick question: does your dunamis come with a user manual? Maybe you overloaded the stabilizer and this wahala ensued. They never disclose on the sales page but on the manual you'd see that these big stabilizers can only carry load at a certain input voltage. The lower the input voltage, the lower the amount of load you can put on the stabilizer

Alot of advices already given. What I want to add is that I have seen some all in installed along that Igando market area that still light up after months, which is rear with others I've seen. It looks like a very robust build.

Secondly, if you decide to build a mini station to power a street for instance, you can use a step up converter to drive maybe 220v DC along the main supply line then use buck converters to drop ut down to usable DC voltages for the light points. That way your system will be somehow useless to thieves if they do steal it as suggested earlier and alsO you don't have much losses since you dealing with DC supply system.

I also think you get better efficiency dealing with converters than inverters.

What about adding video cameras with internet access that send footage to a control room?

But you might be able to couple the system together if you have a team of IT engineers or video engineers
