In a sane clime, government officials in Lagos will use the same BRT bus to and from work! But no, they throw remnants to the public here while they eat like kings... Then they use tribalism and sectionalism to win the gullible to their side while they and their children eat their commonwealth! For those who thought APC was for their tribe in Lagos, will they enter those buses and get discounted fares? For those whose votes were bought for 5k, I hope they can use the money for the next 4 years to cushion fare hikes. I am Yoruba, and I have roots with the Animashauns of Lagos, and all I ask for is good governance at every level. The only true enemy of the masses are politicians! #goodgovernanceovertribalism #goodgovernanceoverpolitics #commonsenseovergullibility |

See what Lagos has become. An ethnic mess. Just shocking. Unbelievable. A long lost melting pot where all tribes and tongues had come together to call her national capital for a hundred years has now mutated into a fiefdom. Where some of other tongues and persuasions had been born and raised, aged and quite a number have died and are buried in her hallowed grounds and vaults knowing no other place to call their own. Having contributed their part to making Lagos what it is today, they will be turning in their graves. Truly Nigeria is begging for restructuring. Without it this country is heading for disaster, internal strife that will simply tear it apart. In Portharcourt, the capital of Rivers state a few years ago at a friend's place this same question arose. When does a locality transit from being a 'village' into a 'city'. Not just by name or size but indeed. Why he asked. I said, 'because you live right in the middle of town, claiming to live in a city yet you've just told me you cannot raise a female dog because the local customs forbids it... A place where oil service workers, civil servants, bankers, businessmen and women of every kind from every part of the world lived in fancy estates. How come? I will borrow a leaf from Boris Johnson's keynote speech in Lagos at the Osigwe lecture with the persuasion and backdrop of our fellow brothers who have long located to Europe and the Americas and are doing well and have even become leaders in all works of life including politics. That Lagos is at the cross roads l. It has maximised it's franchise development and is now faced with the stark reality that it either has to transition from being a 'village' into a 'city' and open up it's atmosphere for full integration of all tribes and tongues or there will begin to be migration towards true cities wherever they may be. Good students of history the world over know that geographical locations are fleeting and the gravitational attraction of success can change when the forces of repulsion become unbearable. Lagos like every aspiring mega 'city' will either reform or decay. I hope the more intellectual and visionary people amongst the present day leadership will push to take charge of this drama and steer this ship of state away from the jagged rocks of ethnicity before it is too late. Lagosians should find, listen and digest the critical parts of Boris Johnson's speech again and again. 1 Like |
