Hello all, I am just worried somehow. My wife is a Registered Nurse (Diploma) and we have a baby of 1 year and 3 weeks, does it make sense to apply with them? I am going for PhD with full funding. Deficit is about 6,800 including the 2 dependants.
Will her nursing diploma Certificate not be a red flag? Can I decide not to state it on the DS160?

Your suggestions are welcomed please! @ Moshkom, Fairheart, Justwise and others who have faced similar situations
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by BigIyanga:

Thank you for your response @ Biglyanga.
She does not have a BSc in Nursing but a Diploma in Nursing (RN) with a license. Should I include this on the DS 160 or should I just write O level as highest level of qualification and put another thing as profession.
I’d put all her qualifications.. F2 doesnt allow u to work. Her license and qualifications are not going to be used untill her status is changed.
So 6800 deficit is what is required to cover 2 dependents? If yes, go try find money to cover your and bring your family.. short term pain vs long term gain.

Be clear about your intentions and profile… and someone in your field might help you out. Generic questions make it hard to offer advice best suited for your situation.

The funding is for you alone not your dependents

Tehilla23:
I was given admission with full tuition waiver, stipend of 1415 per month, partial payment of health fees and some other fees.Yet when I messaged the grad school to get my I-20,I was told I will need to submit a proof of fund of 24,599 dollars.Im confused here,I have two dependents so I don't know if there money has been added but when I messaged the grad school representative,he sent a link that I don't understand that my dependents will also pay.I'm confused, the grad school is not replying and I need the I-20 urgently to apply for our visa.
The school is university of Illinois Urbana Champaign.Who has an idea of what is happening please?

I checked google already. But the smart thing to do is not to rely on Google alone.

It's like when you try to press these schools to tell you, the outcome of your application, they send you love letter cool

Yeah boss.

It has always been that way for most schools. The good ones among them will specifically tell you on their portal not to contact them.

Just allow them to do their things till the end.

I guess for them, the thinking is that you already have an offer somewhere else but probably waiting for their decision to select which offers to choose from. Like you said, it's best to wait for their decision and more often than not, when a school is delaying a bit much than is expected it might be the case that you are a potential and might want to wait for others who would reject their admission, where slots are already filled, before they consider you. So best for you to wait their decision. Don't be too anxious.

This is not always true, at times other candidates are bombarding the inbox of the graduate coordinator, they won't even have your own time. So the more you send an email (follow up) the better.

Abeg, I wanted to have closure. I almost knew nothing will come out from that school because they only admit PhD students when a Professor agrees to be their advisor and all the professors I contacted, either did not respond or told me they are not taking PhD students. They also do not admit PhD students without TA/RA and it is the professors that appoint TA and RA. It was among my free schools, na money wey I use send official GRE scores nai just pain me.

They pull up your application and if you send a complete package you should be getting a decision.

Admission is given on a first come first serve policy and you can't jump the process except if it has been months without a decision and you just have to send a message for follow-up.

Don't go and bomb them before they take your mail to the spam box.

I pity anyone that take this advice. You think you're only one that has competitive profile. Alot of people are competing with your prof's inbox.
Even my GC do tell me to remind them at so so time for more update about internal happenings.
Don't just over do it
