DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by bellong: 6:02pm On Apr 29, 2018
Welcome to the Part 2 of the do it yourself Australian Permanent Resident Visa thread. Please note that Visa 489 was stopped last year and replaced with Visa 491 with additional conditions and increased points. Follow the link provided below for detailed information about Visa 491.

Subclass 491

Please check this link for the previous thread. It contains detailed information about the process and experiences of other successful applicants.

CAVEAT: It is important that prospective applicants read through all the links provided as private discussion would not be entertained. Every information needed is provided on the thread. I will also encourage you to ask all your questions on the thread to be assured of not being misled

Australia has a number of visa options for people who want to live, work or invest in the country. This thread will focus only on the skilled migration visas. As explained in the previous thread, there are three classes of visa under the skilled migration program namely Subclass 189, 190 and 491. Please find below the links to information about each of the subclass on Department of Home Affairs website

Subclass 189

Subclass 190

Subclass 491

As depicted in the attached pictures, the process is simple and straightforward. How long it takes is dependent on an individual's circumstances. Below are the steps involved.

1. Check if your occupation is on the occupation list

2. Go to the website of the assessing body for your occupation for information about the assessment process

3. Write English test. This step can come before skills assessment, it depends on the requirements of the assessing body for your occupation. Some do not require English test for assessment while others do.

4. Once you get positive skills assessment, submit an expression of interest (EOI) here if you have minimum of 65 points for 189, 60 for 190 and 50 for 491.

5. If applying for 190 or 491, ensure a state is sponsoring your occupation before going ahead with the process.

6. After submitting EOI, wait for invitation to apply for the visa

7. Invitation received, apply for the visa and sit back till DHA finalises your application.

8. Grant received, pack your belongings and move.

An information I did not update in the previous thread. YOU MUST BE UNDER 45 YEARS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE SKILLED MIGRATION PROGRAM.

The skilled occupation list can be found here.

Note that the visa subclass you can apply for is written in front of each occupation. If your occupation does not have 189 listed in front, you will seek nomination from State and territory governments. Ignore the other subclass and be concerned with 189, 190 and 489. The others are employer's sponsored visa.

The link to all assessing authorities can be found here.

Hi All,
I have work experience in the same job code which is on the CSOL list but for 2 companies
Company A from 2013-2016
Compnay B from 2016--Present,
In calculating my skilled employment points , how many years can I claim for (in the past 10 years)?
Is it 5 years or 3 years?

In the DHA website I read for the code 234211 -Chemist ,the Visa subclasses (streams or type) are 86, 407, TSS (M),Does it mean a person with this job code can't apply for visa class 189?
Thank you.

Please can someone explain this point system to me.
As per the last round of invitation on 21 March,
Does it mean the lowest score they gave invite is 70?
If one has above 60 but below 70 is there a chancece of being invited?
There is a statement as regards some occupations, Does it imply for these occupations they must have the respectve scores like 75, 80 etc?

https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/WorkinginAustralia/Pages/21-march-2018-invitation-round.aspx

Due to high levels of demand, and in keeping with previous years, the below occupation groups will be subject to pro rata arrangements to ensure availability of invitations across the program year.

Point scores and the dates of effect cut off for the pro rata occupations in the 21 March 2018 invitation round.

You will claim 5 years since it is the same occupation but different companies. The company you work doesn't matter as long as you are performing same job functions.

It means exactly that.

2. Some occupations have too many applicants in the pool. The department decided to push up the invitation points for those occupations to make things easier for themselves.

All pro-rata occupations need at least 75points to have hope of invitation as it is the case currently. Things may change later because immigration policies get reviewed periodically.
