Nigeria coys with there strange policies. You should be paid for the period of training. I dont understand why such cost should be passed to an employee.

Be your own boss if possible, private schools can frustrate any person that depend on them.
Re: What Should I Do by Onyipk: 12:24pm On Apr 02, 2023
I hope he actually has an offer letter because most private schools hardly give offer/employment letters .
It is well o

Built2last:
Go and read your offer letter. It has everything you are entitled to.

Ideally, training is part of your job. You offered your time. You paid transport to work for one month.

In a sane country, you shouldn't be asking for it. You will be paid.

Read your contract and ask. Might be good to ask other teachers too and find out if you are the only one

Why didn't you ask them if you will be paid before the training?.
You were supposed to make this bold step and now that you're done with the training, you can't get a penny!

An employee us supposed to be paid from the first day of resumption. So, the above question was unnecessary in the first place.

Very funny. It's just like a player asking the club if he will be paid while training before the match is played.
Re: What Should I Do by dewiseacre(m): 12:27pm On Apr 02, 2023
What were the terms of the contract? From your write-up, you were trained for one month, did it mean you didn't work for the period? You know some organizations in these climes believe they've expended your salary when you're sent on training grin cheesy

I got a job with a school recently and I did a month training by the school based on the job. I wasn't paid salary, please is there a polite way of asking for the salary?
Re: What Should I Do by BJanta: 12:30pm On Apr 02, 2023
Go and see the proprietor or whoever is in charge, privately . Tell him you're broke without complaining or talking about your salary at all. Then BEG him for a loan of a little percentage of your salary. Ask him to deduct the loan from source as soon as your salary is ready. Do all with politeness. The truth will come out. Then do not think that you've got a job. No. Not. Private school employment is serving a prison term with the most imaginable hard labour. They don't employ, they buy slaves and instead of paying the price outrightly at once, they pay in little stipends to the slave at their own convenience. Pray, discipline yourself to save to acquire any marketable skill while you're there. Then leave when you feel comfortable to do so. A private school employment is the end of the road with a deep ditch. It does not lead to anywhere but stagnancy .

Use Festus Kayemo Twitter style and ask them, they will understand like APC Supporters do.

You should've asked them before commencing the training.

Dear school,
LETTER OF NOTIFICATION

I hereby write to humbly notify you of your (unintentional) negligence in paying me after one month of rigorous training that was time consuming, money consuming, energy consuming and intellectually draining.

I believe that this non payment is an error of omission or oversight and will be quickly resolved. Thanks in anticipation of your favorable consideration EXCEPT UNA WANT MAKE OGUN KILL UNA PAPA.

Do nothing

Hence, it will look like you are money conscious
Re: What Should I Do by PHIPEX(m): 12:45pm On Apr 02, 2023
If your offer letter required your resumption before the training date, you deserve to be paid. Many private schools are like a typical one man business that changes rules per second

Did they tell you they will pay? If they did then wait. I once did a training and I received alert two months after. Soo if they told you they will pay then they will.

These questions are best directed to a staff in the school. They came before you and they would know the dos and don'ts of the school.

In the course of the training you should have asked if you would be paid or not. For now tactfully ask the Head about it.Good Lucky!

Run down?

Have you verified the claim?

Except you're one of the devilish proprietors (perhaps you're a member of this school's management), I don't see any reason why you should take it personal.

But if you're not, go and verify please
Ask from teachers who once taught in the school, ask parents as well.

Cheers mate 🀞

Re: What Should I Do by oladahunsi: 1:48pm On Apr 02, 2023
Its a non teaching account position
DesChyko:
Is your role a teaching role or a non-teaching role? I assume you're talking about the past month's salary alone.

Can you remember as much as possible, the conversation between you and the school with regards to if the training will be paid or not? (NB: For a to-be professional, all trainings are paid, no matter their stance)

Another thing is the school payment policy. I teach in a Private School myself and over here, we get paid after the new month begins (sometimes on the 6th πŸ₯²), even as I'm a member of the management staff. It's not such a bad thing but it's always best when the cheddahs get in quickly right?πŸ˜‰ Find out from trustworthy colleagues, the payment policy or just stay calm. The new month just begun.

If its not stated that u will be paid for the training duration....u might have to let it go...

.private school remuneration and staff welfare is one of the poorest in the country.... they will treat u badly and still expect u to be feeling like they are doing u are favor...... its like some of those school owners went to special training on how to be wicked..

Respect to the senior man!

we've just closed for the term and I know too well that I won't receive April salary cos the school is on vacation to reopened on the 28th.

That's the way of private schools. Just do what you want to do during the holidays, but don't die, so you can return to your trimensual contract. grin grin cheesy

How can they train you for free and still pay you for training you??

Op see the owner of your school here!

He came to work and not to be trained.

The young man believes he has the requisite skill, if the school discovers he lacks the require skills, and still needs his services then they should bear the cost.

Otherwise, it should be started clearly and boldly!

Op meet the Adm/director or whoever is in-charge, asked for training allowance and salary.

Las las, one go reach your hand. Especially if the training were done outside working hours or days.

@bolded. I learnt a new word cool
It's actually a school for orphans and it's being funded and sponsored by the Catholic Church.
I do understand that it's a charity stuff to though,
besides I'm just using it as side hustle in school as I'm still running my post graduate studies.
