“A 49 year-old woman slumps as Court dissolves her 21-year-old marriage over childlessness.

The both parties agreed to dissolve their marriage and the wife asked the court to grant her husband prayer of divorce. In view of this, the Court has no other choice than to grant the petitioner’s prayer for divorce. The marriage is hereby dissolved. The petitioner has waved the N25,000 bride price he paid. Hence the respondent has no need to return it”. The Court held.

Quite sad. Unless she's been a bad wife and her condition self-inflicted/he's always known from the inception that she doesn't have an altruistic interest in him and if the reverse were to be the case that she would have divorced him, he didn't do well. Her suggestion in the last paragraph would've been the best decision to take under the circumstance.

Discarding a spouse/someone who's always had an altruistic interest in you because of a condition beyond their control is callousness.

I hope the man knows that infertility is not only a woman thing. But na wa for them sha, they could have adopted, used surrogacy, try IVF, IUI , egg/sperm donor, etc. It is really well.

Unfortunately, madam may have entered menopause and not be able to carry babies for ever. She should just go and find work in a creche to enjoy babies for as long as she can jare. May God bless every woman that hopes for motherhood with their bundles of joy.

I feel bad for the woman. This is why it is very important to ask your partner their reason(s) for marriage before saying I do. Its a big mistake to marriage someone that his/her only reason for marriage is to have children.

I have a relative whose 16 years marriage ended for the same reason. The ex-husband remarried and still has no child while she adopted a 3 year old girl who should be joining secondary school this September.

I can't divorce someone that loves and cares about me simply because she can't conceive a child except if the cause of her infertility is an ugly past of hers and not a natural occurrence.
