A40:That's the kind of Robin he needs. Luka will never be a great defender especially on the perimeter, but with his size you can stick him on the inside with small ball bigs and he does a good enough job against those kind of players who are not quick laterally. You might have to make some weird moves but it can work. I remember when Brook Lopez went to the Bucks, people were scratching their heads on how putting Giannis with a back to the basket big would work, but the Bucks did their due diligence and got a player who was recreating his game on a cheap for 1 year and since then has had to pay for his unique role. |

Khanben:Exactly how competent and creative GMs get it done. They got a Bobby Portis, a Brook Lopez. I think it also speaks to Brook Lopez how he was able to evolve his game on defense The Mavs are starting friggin Dwight Powell at center. How can you win with a team that has no perimeter defense and no interior defense I mean just look at the present roster and you have to ask what exactly is the plan? |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Khanben: 2:44am On Apr 08, 2023 |
A40:It's not just that they are starting Powell at center, but it's also the frigging contract they gave him after he was coming off an ACL surgery. This is a guy that all he does well is predicated on athleticism and they still gave him a 3yr/33mil contract. When I first saw he was a FA, I was thinking a contract that averages out at a little above the minimum just to make it a multi year contract is the best he wouldget on the market. but the Mavs as usual saw something nobody else saw, these guys in todays nba, actually gave a small ball center, who cannot shoot FTs not to talk of 3s, who is unplayable on defence 1v1 against any of the competent big men in the league a contract the averages out at 8 figures. The incompetence oozing from that organization stinks to the high heavens |

The Heat overcame the Mavs no they Mauled them gaminguider. This is serious with Lebron giving a Taste of what to look out for. Can't wait to watch the Spurs play though and as for anyone who thinks The Lakers will flop, well watch your back |

So this is the West standings as of today. The Clippers have 2 games left while the Lakers and Warriors both have one game. The Clippers are in an advantageous situation, in that they can decide who they play in the 1st round. Win both their games and they get the 5th seed and play the Suns. Lose one and they get the 6th seed and play the Kings. The Warriors don't have that luxury because they could fall to the play-in if they tank their last game. My best guess is the Clippers win their next game which is against Portland, and tank their final game against Phoenix. UPDATE The Clippers would have to win out their games if they want to finish top 6. This is due to the Pelicans having the tiebreaker over the Clippers. If the Clippers, Lakers and Pels all finish with the same record, the Pels automatically move to 6th because they have the best conference record among the three, even though they don't have the tie breaker over the Lakers. So it would be Pels at 6, Clippers at 7 and Lakers at 8. So it's 5th or 7th for the Clippers.

steady986:thanks for this. nobody wants to face the suns right now, so no one wants #5. Except maybe the warriors |

steady986:Some really bad habits have been learned. He is playing below his talent level. I fear he becomes another Damian Lillard |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Khanben: 1:55am On Apr 09, 2023 |
When I talk about how narratives have taken the place of fact some people think we are just supporting the players. A Mavs insider Tim macmahon said the decision to bench the players came from ownership ala Cuban himself, because their draft pick for next year has some protections. But talk heads are already calling Luka, the other players quitters because they did not play. Wait for a few months to years and you will hear someone say, 'remember that time Luka quit on his team'. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 2:35am On Apr 09, 2023 |
birdman:What do you mean exactly? Is Damian Lillard a bust or is he playing below his talent level? |
| Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 3:06am On Apr 09, 2023 |
steady986:Too one dimensional. That scoring capability does not translate into championship like game. The discipline and defense and x/os that is supposed to come with that unguardability is not there. Compare him to say, Curry, or even the bigger Durant. We know he can get hot. Thats it. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 3:11am On Apr 09, 2023 |
Last day of game for the season. And last day for nairalegue as well. Head to Yahoo fantasy NBA and watch KNIGHTBlaed vs Hohenheim as they duke it out. We have never had a repeat championship, but if Knight wins this, he will be the first. Honorable mention to Killrhymz, steady986, smooshchn, aliondo, donlitle25, Joephemzyz and Hardetayour. These guys are acrimonious. I be like Luka this year, from #1 seed to not making the playoffs ![]() |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Khanben: 5:31am On Apr 09, 2023 |
birdman:Boss with all due respect, not every player will be a great defender. Lillard puts in effort on the defensive end and that is all he can do. Curry has only won because the brain trust in GSW actually know what they are doing, they did not saddle him with a two guard who might be a worse perimeter defender than himself. Steph is not winning anything with what Dame has had to work with in Portland |

birdman:How can you compare Trae to all-time greats like Curry and KD. Trae will probably never be a no. 1 option. We haven't seen him alongside a great big or wing for us to judge him. And besides, he's an unathletic 6 ft guard and so there's a limit to what he can do on the court. But I like him for just mere controlling an offense and getting others into play. His scoring is just a secondary attribute. But having said that, he'll still give you 25 a night. |

steady986:The best I can say about Steph and Lillard, is that they are combo guards who play PG because of their size |

| Re: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 8:12pm On Apr 09, 2023 |
Khanben:Dame is not even as big as Steph. He's 6 feet. But he plays more PG than Steph. Steph is 6"3'. |

The great Celtics have existed for over 70 years. And you want to tell me this isn't the most talented era in basketball? Sit this one out bro. You have no case.

Do not be one-sided in your thoughts. . Always try to find counter-examples that nullify your argument. Perhaps you couldn't. This could just be the consequence of the fact that they have a lot of freedom. Ofcourse you should score more. It would be weird if you don't. In other words, there is more than one reason why that is the case. You cannot just choose one reason and go straight to a conclusion. Great achievement regardless. Me and you for this playoffs ![]() steady986: |

birdman:Dinwiddie regressed mainly because of his ACL injury. His numbers had already dropped before he moved to Dallas. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by Khanben: 10:05pm On Apr 09, 2023 |
afrodoc2:I am not in the medical field, but IMHO the ACL injury is possibly the worst injury you can get in basketball. It just feels like when guys return from it they are at less than 100%, even years down the line. Even KD whose game is predicated on athleticism at all just does look as twitchy as he used to be. |
| Re: The NBA Begins by steady986(m): 11:47pm On Apr 09, 2023 |
benji93:Yea. Steph too is scoring this much because of the freedom given him. Which puts a question mark on his greatness. I ain't taking any revisionist argument from you bro. |
