With all due respect Prof. Soyinka is good but Achebe is the king of literature popularly known in Africa and across the glob.

I am surprised that you do not know the politics that go with the selection and nomination process with the Nobel committee.

Achebe's things Fall Apart is one of the most popular books in the world having been translated in several languages and used by many educational boards in teaching curricullum. I was even surprised that the book is being used far away Iceland.

Tell us Soyinka's book that is that popular.

His Abiku poem published in 1967 and forced on Nigerians students at some point was a disaster even after he copied the name from an earlier successful work of similar name published in 1965 by the great Ijaw poet J. P. Clark-Bekederemo. He literally copied the topic from great JP Clark and made a mess of it with unnecessary mouth twisting grammar.

Nobel and political machinations? Is that the lie and excuse Achebe put forward for not winning it? The same way you blame Inec many years later for obi losing to another Yoruba man.

For your information the Nobel prizes are funded by the swedish from the estates of Alfred Nobel. It's not controlled by America or Britain. Nobody influenced Soyinka's winning the prize, he is just better than Achebe as far as literature in it's entirety is concerned. That's not to say Achebe was not great in his own rights. I read his There Was A Country and I was disappointed by his envy and anger even in old age. He didn't hide his jealousy, competitiveness against and hatred for yorubas. The same thing ibos are still displaying today. Kilode gan?

Go and read Death and The King's Horseman by Soyinka. That's a great play that has been presented worldwide. You need to see the ingenuity he employed in translating Yoruba culture and proverbs for the wider global audience. Stop comparing such intellectual prowess to basic books like chike and the river and things fall apart.

That's because most of Achebe'ss book were secondary and primary school school level books, while Soyinka are more advanced like (university level/Phd)

Achebe won the Commonwealth Poetry award in 1972 for his poetry book - Soul Brothers. He was named the best poet in English speaking countries.

His other poetry works include
1. Christmas in Biafra ( 1973)
2. Another Africa ( 1997)
3. Collected Poems ( 2002)

Achebe also wrote Essays and Research Books. One of them is " There was a Country".

Shakespeare is a playwright like Soyinka but Shakespeare has more than three masterclass books that are known all over the world. Soyinka does not have a single masterclass.

The worst play written by Shakespeare is better than the best play( The trial of Brother Jero) written by Soyinka. The worst novel written by Achebe is better than the best novel written by Soyinka.

Achebe was suppose to win the Nobel Prize in 1986 but the Western nations wanted to spite on him for exposing the actrocities they committed in Africa through his books.

Hence they gave the award to Soyinka without being able to point out any of his books that earned him the award.

Obasanjo had a similar experience. He was meant to be the Secretary General of the United Nations in the early 90s but the Western nations that denied Achebe the Nobel Prize stood against Obasanjo because he spoke against the actrocities of the apartheid regime in South Africa.

Hence just as Achebe lost the Nobel prize to Soyinka for speaking for Africa, Obasanjo lost the UN secretary to an Egyptian for speaking for Africa.

All this is not necessary, Prof. Soyinka has paid his dues for the country and like every other citizen is entitled to his opinion.
His latest opinion is not a criteria to discredit him of his past achievements.
Both Authors has contributed their quota let's focus now on the court case, all this side distraction is not necessary.

Soyinka is not Achebe’s mate in everything..

For you to win a Nobel prize, you are expected to come up with something new in terms of content or form or both. And that is how you win the Nobel Prize in Literature! It's awarded to someone who has done outstanding work in an idealistic direction that adds the greatest benefit to humankind! This is who WS is and these are the categories of people Soyinka belongs to. Only few people can be compared with Wole Soyinka. Very very few..

It’s an insult to compare Achebe of just a write story to sell kind of person. Soyinka goes beyond that! Soyinka is a branch of literature while Achebe is just a brilliant literature students! That’s how far differ they’re! Achebe knows this himself! The pained little diva, Shimamada Ashidi knows this!

The question is did he win highest world honour like Soyinka? So far he failed to win world cup in literature, forget it; humble yourself to accept Soyinka as the boss. The world weighed the two of them and gave world cup price to Soyinka because he is better. No need to brag, is not about how many books that are not recognized to win highest price in litrature, it is not about quantity of books written, it is about quality that attracts highest price which the world of literature had spoken loud about Soyinka being the boss. Stop wasting your energy, go and remain best in your own area

While Chinua Achebe is a master storyteller. Wole Soyinka is a wordsmith.

If more people have read Chinua Achebe's it is therefore comes as no surprise.

You have probably read a Stephen King novel but do you know of any of the poems written by the poet William Butler Yeats or even by ?

The Nobel Prize in literature is not awarded for any one book. It is awarded to a shortlisted author for their body of work and how much impact they contribute to their chosen field, literature. Achebe's books are too narrow in their coverage to really win the Nobel Prize. Achebe was just a literary version of writers like Stephen king without the same level of appeal.

I have confide in you the politics that made Soyinka to win the Nobel Prize in 1986.

However if you feel happy by priasing him, so be it. He is a very good writer that I have lots of respect for. Hence he deserves your praise.

The last winner of the Nobel Prize in literature, Mrs Annie Ernaux from France won the award after writing series of autobiography about her life.

She did not write any poetry, Novel, drama or play. She won the award because the French Government played the underground politics for her.

Hence some French citizens will boost tomorrow that Annie Ernaux is better than all the reknown authors that never won the Nobel prize. This include William Shakespeare and James Joyce.

It is well.

AChebe was never Wole Soyinkas mate in the literary world. He writes in simple and understandable grammar that keeps the reader encaptivated until you reach the last page. Even his collection of poems is the same.

Translating written old Yoruba forklore does not connote originality and bamboozing readers with unnecessary grammar depicts elements of emptiness.

Achebe remained a colosus compared with Soyinka in the literary world.
