Please what is subsidy!
Subsidy means a Nation called Nigeria led by a skeleton in Aso Rock with a Katsina Harvard Degree in incompetency and burukutu, impoverishing 200 million Nigerians with lies, increasing the price of petrol, instead of going to learn from Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries that the same petrol has helped develop their various countries shocked

Those who blame Emefiele and calling for his prosecution but ignore Buhari who is the minister of petroleum have sold their brains to buy roasted corn. All public refineries dead for 8 years.

Buhari's dream was only to be a civilian president. He never planned to make Nigeria better.

Same way some clowns voted for him to spite others is the same way they voted Tinubu, screaming the opposition will cry. Do you get a discount when buying petrol because you support APC?

How much is the cost of building a functional refinery?

Naija and wastage
every year, govt goes through billions of USD to run a shaky system but cannot discipline themselves to set aside some of it and build like 3 or 4 Dangote refinery replicas. Even the ancient ones we have are dead. Nigeria is a lost cause.

The current administration spent 8 years doing nothing about the issue.

Within that 8yrs price of petrol, diesel, kerosine etc quadrupled with no functioning refinery being setup, putting the masses in great suffering.

They are about borrowing $800m as palliative for subsidy removal, me and you know that money won't be used for any good.

Shame on the government of Nigeria and all those who voted and are fighting for the failed party to have another 4yrs.

I don't care who the president is, i just want result. The inflation is biting already so imagine when they remove petrol subsidy and your salary remains same.

Re: Fuel Price Soars By 81% Despite N6tn Subsidy Payment – NBS by nairalanda1(m): 4:53pm On Apr 12, 2023
Simple explanation for the reason why is that subsidy payments are always never enough to keep petrol prices low.

At the end of the day, to keep fuel prices at say N65 per liter, or even N40 per liter, it would have required over ten times the sum quoted in the report, if not more.

The problem with subsides is the difference between the cost of production and the government set price. Every year, the difference keeps widening. At the end of the day, prices have to go up...ie the government set price...to enable government afford subsides.... or the government would be in serious trouble. Indeed at the end of the day we are in a lot of debt.

Also, because the price of fuel is lower than the price of fuel in other African countries, a lot of smuggling results...and everyone does it, not just hausas, everyone...big and small men, and that increases subsidy costs, and puts more pressure...leading to...see above paragraph.

Then when there is free government money, stealing results. One reason why NNPC is the sole importer of fuel is simple...when it was everyone importing...people were lying about fuel imported, and taking subsidy money...for not importing fuel. Stealing perfected.

The summary of the above matter is simple...and it isn't just subsides.....price controls do not work. That's why since the late 1980's, governments have been calling for subsidy removal....but we all love our cheap fuel, so we , at the end of the day, keep prices low, and get into more debt, corruption, stealing, and so forth...because...prices must stay low.

Well, we can't keep the subsidy for longer, but I have a suspicion that Tinubu would find that removing subsides would be too expensive for his political future...even Peter Obi, and they will keep subsidies. Buhari kept them, GEJ tried, but chose power over subsidy removal. Nigerians love subsides. And somehow, calling for their removal means you support Buhari, Tinubu, GEJ and Obasanjo and the millitary.

Well, if we can sustain more and more debt, keep the subsidy. We are poor after all.

P.S

Below are three articles for anyone wishing to argue and call me names about this subsidy thing. Even for those wishing to praise me. I'm apolitical, and have supported subsidy removal ever since GEJ's government in 2012 opened my eyes...and I am no PDP or APC supporter. Or Obi supporter.

1. Reflections on the fuel subsidy regime

2. Fuel subsidies in Nigeria , bad for economy, but lifeblood of politicians

3.Ending fuel subsidies in Nigeria can supercharge supply chains. (BERRY IMPORTANT...WILL BE ON THE TEST).

PS.2 : READ THE ARTICLES ABOVE. I have helpfully posted the links.

I am tired of arguing with people.

I know this is a rhetorical quesiton, but subsidies...are what the government pays the petroleum sector to cover for the losses it sustains selling fuel below its production cost or importation cost.

Going back in history, in 2011 dec, fuel cost N65 AT THE pump, and N99 to bring into the country. Subsides cost around N34 per liter then. In one month's time, fuel prices went up to N97 and thus subsidy costs went down to N2 per liter.

Such increases have been done over and over again since 1973...which is why fuel does not cost N15 kobo, as it did in early 1981

Very simple. But stealing won’t let them. They prefer to borrow and divert the money to their personal account than do the right thing.
Subsidy is just another name for looting.
