Genius100: Oga. Monetary policy is EVERYTHING. It reaches EVERYONE in equal measure. In developed economies the great enemy is not pestilence or war, it is inflation. It raises and brings down governments. The cost of living is the exclusive preserve of Federal governments everywhere in the world. Poverty and wealth is a national subject matter. And by the way. In case Mr. Festus has forgotten, Nigeria is not a proper Federation. The owners of Nigeria have resisted the devolution of powers to lower federating units for over 50 years. Our present structure suits their feudal lifestyle and paves the way to their objectives. Without truly independent States and Local governments there is simply no metrics by which you can assess their performance. And finally the ruling APC has the yam and the knife at hand. They control the Federal Government including the Executive, Legislature and massively influence the Judiciary. They have the most States and Local governments in check. Do what does the party stand for, what is it's agenda, what is it doing to restructure Nigeria into a proper Federation..... And Nigerians brought them back again for another term.... jokers. |

BluntCrazeMan: I don't know about your regions. You can't be talking about the grassroots and ignore the LGAs. You can't expect the FG to solve only your street problems. |

In Nigeria, everybody talks about the Federal government all the time, nobody cares about the failure or corruption at the state and local levels. |

Daddyyin: So I ask you again.. To the States that had been conducting LGA elections,, what are the poverty levels and the “GRASSROOTS” Development in those LGAs like,, -- as compared to the other States that do not do elections, (but have appointed LGAs officials).?? We need you to do a compare-and-contrast analysis,, AND NOT TALKING EMPIRICALLY, or deviating from the issues you raised by yourself.. Give us facts and figures. Give us Comparative side-by-side data of the two different scenarios.. Nobody told the FG to come and solve their street problems...,, So, stop deviating.. |

Genius100:If I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath expecting any such meaningful discussion on here. Nigerians are a product of their cultures and their education system, neither of which encourages calm, dispassionate, reasoned discussion of issues. The typical Nigerian is brought up in a culture which emphasizes uncritical reverence for elders, brooking no questioning or initiative from the young. Said Nigerian is then "educated" in a school system which emphasizes obedience and regurgitation by rote, with critical thinking not even registering on the curriculum. The end result is an individual who can certainly read and write, and who might even be able to display impressive skills in narrow technical fields, but who is utterly incapable of engaging in rational discussion about anything outside the scope of whatever they've had drilled into them during their school years. Critical thinking requires knowing how to weigh evidence, being able to detach one's personal wishes and desires from reality, knowing what constitutes a valid logical inference and what doesn't, etc. None of these things play any role in the typical Nigerian's upbringing or daily experience. All of the above is why you see Nairalanders invariably lapse into the usual mishmash of "whataboutism", ad-hominems, non-sequiturs and the like whenever topics such as this one arise. They simply don't know how to do anything else but yammer on about irrelevant nonsense even when they aren't simply rushing to express their frustration through the flinging of curses and personal insults. 2 Likes |

Minister of stomach infrastructure . This guy cut his teeth in the legal profession under Late Gani Fawehinmi. But, unlike his master in the legal trade, he lacks integrity and moral fortitude, and would say anything to perpetuate himself in the good books of those responsible for Nigeria's multifaceted poverty. Shame on you, penchod. Useless man. |

BluntCrazeMan: All Nigeria governors and LGA are totally clueless. 1. Look at Oyo state for example. If the governor invest in mechanized farming . Oyo state will feed the entire southwest conveniently 2. Look at bayelsa. No tangible development. Despite their proximity to the sea. Poverty is dealing with them. 3. Look at the entire southeast. Potopoto everywhere 4. Look at Kwara state . Instead of them to invest in tourism. With that they could take in million of dollars. 5. Look at Benue state . Instead of them to invest in agriculture. They are waiting for the FG . 6. Look at Ogun state . Despite their huge potential. Nothing meaningful to show for it. 7. Look at Niger , borno , lands are just wasting. 8. Look at Delta state. I spit . 9. Look Edo. Nothing to show 10. Look at ondo state and Ekiti. Instead of the governors to invest in cocoa farming and fish farming . Na lie 11. Look at kogi state. That state is a disgrace. No tangible development 2 Likes |

otuomasirichi: What Festus Kiyamo said is true except you don't understand what the law of the country says about the responsibilities of all the tiers of government. That is why I do say that the local government must be free from the shackles of the state so that the people will enjoy the benefits of good governance. Moreso, election at the local government level should be by party basis, but by selection of candidates from the residents of the LG by the residents of the LG before election among the selected candidate from various parts of the LG. Those selected will form the government of the LG. While the one with highest votes lead them all as the chairman of the LG. After selection and election, the elected ones must continue to reside in the same LG till their tenure elapsed. That is, the selected and elected individuals must be known to be residing in the LG before their selection and election into office and continue to reside in the LG as they govern the LG. If any among the selected and elected decides to relocate to another place not within the LG, the person shall loose his or her position as elected office holder 1 Like |
