People should learn to be cautious..
People sha,A lady credited my opay Account with 20 k yesterday evening, and I know I wasn't even expecting anything from anyone,
And the funniest thing was that I was even thinking of what to eat when the alert entered.she later called and I had to send the money back...
Honesty is the best policy...even tho it's hard..
He should have refund the money..

If can happen. Last year I accidentally sent 600k to the wrong person. Bank said the recipient must go and initiate a reversal.

Luckily they called him and he is an old guy. Not very mobile anymore in fact , and it took him time, but he still went to the bank to do as requested

Restored my belief in the goodness of Nigerians at least for a day lol. Sent the old man 100k as a thank you even as I doubt he needs it.

Bless you 4 that. Not everybody would have done what you did especially with that amount. I tell people everyday I ain't no Christian or religious person but there is so much joy in doing the right thing. The universe wanted to bless that bloke and it was using you to.

This year I mistakenly transferred a sum of 2m to a UBA account belonging to a police officer and the officer went to the bank to initiate a reversal himself even before I was able to obtain a court order. Some people don't know such a money like that can be traced.

My analysis was because I am single....

If I was married, I'd taken another root.

Like I said, getting a new BVN will enable you to open a new bank account and you can do transfer and even change phone line to a new phone and create new emails as well ...

I'd send my family out first Europe, while I move and change my identity to something new!
Kill this pipe dream, is not as easy and straight forward as you are making it to look

Bro, such a wonderful man. The bank had told me his account had not been active for ages and that he was above 80.

Per the amount involved they actually phoned him while I was in the branch and he was not even aware of any credit to his account.

The man explained he did not go out much but would call his driver to take him to the bank to authorise the reversal on his end.

Even felt guilty for troubling the old man. I think bank called him Tuesday. He went to the bank Thursday.

The older generation are much better than our hushpuppi generation today like the chap advising how to japa with the money. Very worrying for Nigeria sha. They are all worse than Peter Obi. Lol.

I really feel touched by this, for many reasons.
God bless you for your kindness to the old guy.

And to you too for the token and for being grateful.

Bro, I could not stop praying for this old man. I believe you got it right. I think at his age, doing the right thing was more important than money he likely no longer had any use for.

Similar thing happened to me last year, my writer called in distress that she was in labour, been a soft man I was very scared, transferred to her not knowing she sent me a wrong account, I assumed the name was that of her husband or a relative.

80K was sent to her. Hours later she did not get it and it was false labour, 3 days later still not received. Then I checked the account and forwarded it to her and the mistake was spotted. I called UBA, who in turn told me to call access.

They were wasting my time, I did a reverse search and found the guy on facebook, did a little bit of digging and found his phone number on nairaland, called him but he can't go to bank for 2 weeks due to banks been far from him ( Sokoto ).

Like 72 hours later I got a reversal, apparently someone came around who has a car. I offered him 40k, he rejected it.

I am sorry, I am not a religious bigot but he is a MUSLIM hence I got the money if it is my fellow Christian and under 30 ( from the guy's picture he is under 30 ) I can as well forget 90% of the time.

Some people will dispute the last part but it is my personal experience and I am a bonafide Christian.

Wow. Wonderful human being. God bless you to for your very generous offer. The old man I sent 100k to may not even know till today his account was credited . I don't think he had much interest in money. I had his account so I just sent the money and wrote "thank you sir" and my name in the description box.

There’s plenty of ways you can end up with an accidental windfall in your current account, whether it’s a banking error, an incorrect tax rebate, or even an overpayment from your employer. It sounds like a dream come true, but can you keep the cash?

In a nutshell, no. Legally, if a sum of money is accidentally paid into your bank or savings account and you know it doesn’t belong to you, then you must pay it back.

Why you can’t keep accidental payments

Keeping any money wrongly credited to your account could lead to you being charged with ‘retaining wrongful credit’ under the Theft Act 1968.

Please specify how it is an offense under Nigerian Law.
