Jackanda1: Get the answer from an axcerpt from my book, How to Be Filled With the Holy Spirit. CHAPTER FIVE What Is The Visible Evidence That You Are Filled With The Holy Spirit? When you get filled with the Spirit, there is usually accompanied evidence that you are filled. Virtually everyone that got filled with the Holy Spirit in the Bible days spoke in other tongues. So, why should your experience be different? There are a few people I have met who claim they are filled but do not speak in other tongues. This is inconsistence with the scriptures. Let’s take a memory lane through all the scriptures that gives an account of those that received the Holy Spirit; “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.…” (Acts 10:44-46) This was the experience in the house of Cornelius when God sent Peter to his household to preach the gospel to him. Notice the underlined sentence. The Jews were surprised that the Gentiles also could receive the Holy Spirit. The only way they knew was that, ‘they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God’. That was the proof that they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Another good example is recorded in Acts 19:1-6; “And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” (Acts 19:1-6) This is another proof that speaking in tongues is the sign that follows the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Even the experience on the day of Pentecost revealed the same consistency; “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:1-4) There are only two incidences of people that received the Holy Spirit but there was no immediate record to show that they spoke in other tongues but it is implied; “Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money” (Acts 8:14-18) In this record, there was no mention of anyone that spoke in tongues but Simon saw something that made he realized that they had received. What did he see? He certainly would have heard them speak in tongues like in other cases. If you disagree on this point, the next record will prove it; God send Ananias to Paul was just got converted to lay hands on him to receive back his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. “And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.” (Acts 9:17-20) Here again, there is no record to show that Paul spoke in tongues but through the letters of Paul, we all know that he even spoke in tongues more than everyone in his generation; “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all” (1 Corinthians 14:18) When did he receive the ability to speak in tongues? It was certainly when Ananias lay hands on him. This I believe confirms that the experience in Acts 8:14-18 we cited above could not have been different. There is one scripture that I would love to bring our attention to. It was an occasion when Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit on his disciples even before the day of Pentecost. Those who claim they have the Holy Spirit but do not speak in tongues use this passage to buttress their point. “And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.” (John 20:22) Here, the passage could not have been talking about the baptism of the Holy Ghost which he had told them they should wait for. If they already got baptized here, why would he tell them to wait for it? The Holy Spirit could not be poured out until Jesus was glorified. Notice he breathed on them before he said receive ye the Holy Spirit. What Jesus did here was to impact them with the new life. This experience was the birth of the new creation that began with the Apostles. Remember when God created Adam, he breathed on them before they became a living soul. The Holy Spirit has a role to play in imparting the new life hence he said receive ye the Holy Ghost. The process of creation always involves the Holy Spirit hence Job wrote; “The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” (Job 33:4) In the same way, God breathed into the first man Adam who was the beginning of creation of mankind, Jesus also breathed into his disciples who also were the beginning of the new creation. So, this scripture cannot be used to make a claim that you can have the Holy Spirit without speaking in other tongues. Stone03:Long story bro. I think i have written a dozen of posts about it on nairaland. I listened to the lies of athiest when i was a teenager and turned against God. I started trying to come back recently and it's been difficult. The Holyspirit doesn't speak to me or convict me of sin anymore, i've lost my faith and desire for God. He doesn't even answer my prayers anymore except someone prays for me. Unfortunately, people i have begged to pray for me, prefer to advice me and leave me in my emptiness. |

Jackanda1: It's well with you, brother. The forgiving God does not regard our iniquity. I was born and brought up in a severe Christian home. I have spirit filled biological father that dipped me into Scripture Union group. Due to poverty and quest to make it quick I joined secret cult and began to meet with them for many years. I totally turned my back on God. One day I saw a little book titled 'put your angels to work'. I desired to know more about angels because I have studied so much about guardian angels in my mystic world. That was when I was rearrested by the powers of the Lord, who opened my eyes to the spiritual provisions He made available to all who are in Christ. I cried and asked God for mercy and vowed to burn all my mystic books which I did. It took quite long for me to forgive myself. My past hunted me for years and I felt not deserving of God's mercies. That was part of the time I kept desiring the filling of the Holy Spirit and all failed. At a point I cried to God thinking that He had forsaken me. I wanted committing suicide instead of going back to the mystic cult. My brother, keep telling yourself that the forgiveness of God is unsearchable and there is no evil life He can't forgive. I once met an invited preacher who was a die hard armed robber. A military man by training but defected to robbery and now the Holy Spirit has arrested him. I pray for you that the channel of grace open and the incredible light of God's love and shinny face overwhelm your heart. May every struggles you experience in fellowship with God cease now. Receive His blessings and overwhelming love and may you locate the spiritual joy that supercedes natural understanding in Jesus name |

Kobojunkie: and that is the problem... many Nigerians worship Jesus and not even God anymore... they would also abandon Jesus to worship daddy GO who then uses afose ebo on them... before Jesus Moses was... if you must know... I don't enter the supernatural realm through Jesus... I go all by myself... now this is weird to fanatics like you... I am not a Christian fyi... I don't have your beliefs... whether my idea contradicts or not you're on your own... before Jesus there were true prophets who engaged God directly... there was Abraham, there was Elijah... I operate with with the grace, authority and power as of old. E choke

Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 9:14pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. But according to God, you cannot worship Him without going through Jesus Christ. 2. John the Baptist was the last of the Old Prophets that was sent by God and he was sent to help close out the Old Law as prophesied by the prophets so that the New Way, Jesus Christ, could begin. So, I guess my question to you is this, if the old access to God has been closed for almost 2000 years, what God have you been contacting all this while? It couldn't be the same God, right? As that would make God a liar. |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by 1950Mack: 9:26pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: You don't get the gist... my direct encounter with God made me realize how men dietified Jesus by themselves for their selfish desires... no beef with the son of Mary cus he's sacred but I'm just not a fan... tell me... are Jews also worshipping your proposed god, what can you say about muslims? See... worship your Jesus in peace and let me worship my God too in peace. The idea of closed access is another dogma by Christians... you folks are the ones misinterpreting God, God is the same yesterday, today and forever... he never changes. Fanatics should stop confusing people with the idea of christ, there are several civilizations without christ yet making progress under the abundant grace of God... Nigerians are something else |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 9:36pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. Jesus's Christ is God's very agreement/Covenant which He, God, promised send to His people, Israel, from the time of Moses. He is the National Constitution in the Kingdom of God — God's Nation of priests which God promised to build out of His people, Israel - Exodus 19 vs 6. So, like YHWH, God's National Constitution for the Nation of Israel in the Land of Canaan, He does not need men to exalt Him in any way or form - John 5 vs 41 - given who He is. The religion of Christianity and even Islam don't worship Jesus Christ. Rather they use the name of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, to hide the many lies they sell through their religious doctrines and traditions to their fellow men, all so they, men, can continue to wield power and control over the lives of others in so doing. Religion is simply the use of the name of God to sell lies — that which is not of God. 2. God never gave men religion in the first place. So Judaism, Islam, and equally the religion of Christianity have absolutely nothing to do with God. 3. Look, God made it clear from the beginning that His only inheritance is Israel in the land of men. God made His Covenant, YHWH, with the people of Israel in the land of Canaan — YHWH is God in the Nation of Israel in the Land of Canaan. Then He also made His Covenant, Jesus Christ with the people of Israel in the Kingdom of God — Jesus Christ is God in the KIngdom of God. That is the narrative presented in scripture. Any other narrative is not of Scripture but of men. |

Kobojunkie: I am dying of laughter here... I don't even know what to say anymore because you have just strangled yourself from the above.... exactly... that's my point... you just copied what I was trying to tell you earlier.... maybe you should read your last comment again and see if you're not making a mistake because you just rubbished christ yourself hehehehehe God never gave men religion indeed... which makes christianity and any other religion seem like scam from the selfish heart of men. Hehehehehe... e de choke

Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 9:48pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. How exactly did I strangle myself, and with what? 2. Yes, Religion is a scam! It is a system or tool created by ordinary men for the purpose of using God and His name in selling lies with which they then wield control and power over the lives and minds of their fellow men. Do you need me to make it even clearer or what? |

Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 10:11pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. You are not paying attention! God didn't give Israel religion of men, but Laws which He mandate they each --- as individuals---- submit to and obey. You should take time to actually read through scripture for yourself to get a better idea of who God is and what He, in fact, wants rather than assuming that by going against the religions of men God has your back no matter what you do. |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by 1950Mack: 10:23pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: How can I pay attention to your confusion and delusion... I did pay attention though and I saw how you contradicted yourself and even affirmed my facts... am still wondering if that's deliberate or it's the work of paraga... maybe you should read all our comments again from beginning.... see... you're being confused... stop going back and forth.... you are the one that need to understand God the more.... I have summarized both holy books and what I saw in all were mostly (90%) the handiwork of men... don't quote or mention the scripture please... it's repulsive... that's one of the tool used to backup wickedness.... God has my back... I don't know about you... I have no issues with God... my problem is with men and especially people like you who are religious extremists and can't even get their facts right most times... they seem blinded or brainwashed I'll say... fanatics are religous psychopaths with big teeths and afose ebo

1950Mack:1. Are you able to clearly point out this contradiction you claim to have witnessed then? Let's at least start there. |

Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 10:32pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. I read it but I still do not exactly know what you claim is a contradiction. So please, restate it and only it so we can get on the same page here. |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 10:34pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. I never said you were a Christian anyways. I am not a mind reader either. You claimed there was some of contradictionnin my statements somewhere and I am simply trying to get you to state it clearly. Are you somehow of the belief that outside of religion, God does not exist? Or are you of the belief that even though scripture was written by non-religious individuals over several lifetimes, because religion has adopted and even propagated it means scripture belongs to religion of men? |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by 1950Mack: 10:37pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: My very first comment established my direct partnership with God and dismissed religion and the idea of Jesus... you opposed but only to do same later yourself... this is not calculus na... stop whining me abeg... no be you write those comments yourself... abeg stop troubling me... read properly and see for yourself... ask another person to explain all the conversations so far to you if that will help. Thanks |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 10:44pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. Direct partnership with a God who made clear no partnership is even possible? Are you saying God lied? 2. I dismissed religion but not Jesus Christ. So how could we have been saying the same things? Where is the contradictions by the way? |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by 1950Mack: 10:51pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: See dem... mouthpiece of God... alafose ebo... find another customer jarey... no partnership is possible ... then who are you partnering with... must be the devil... because fanatics are fast becoming fetish and diabolical... pastors are now herbalists and ritualists, rapists, fraudsters and so on.... what more can I say.... they do evil in the name of God hiding behind religion.... from your comments so far you're a terrible Christian. You did dismiss Jesus christ yourself... read properly.... if you think I will spoon fed you it'll not happen.... read your junk by yourself |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by 1950Mack: 10:54pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: You even have the guts to say you dismissed religion... then why are you practicing christianity... you better stop strangling yourself |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 10:55pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. I am not a Christian. Remember religion is a scam. 2. I never did dismiss Jesus Christ as it seems you didn't read my posts. I made clear that must like YHWH, Jesus Christ happens to be God of God's New agreement/Covenant in the Kingdom of God. So, I am not certain what it is you claim to be reading as it seem you are not properly digesting any of my responses at all. By the way, I am still waiting for you to clearly state the contradiction you claim to have observed. |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 10:58pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. I made clear that religion is nothing but a man-made tool used by men to deceive their fellow men. Isn't that same as dismissing religion? 2. I never said I was a Christian as I made clear that Christianity, the religion, is a scam. Why the confusion? |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by 1950Mack: 10:58pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: You're not a Christian then why not let me be... why quote me from the onstart... you must be a troublemaker o... don't argue aimlessly... it's not healthy atall |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 11:00pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. This is a public forum where individuals come to have conversations and discussions. Surely, if you didn't want to be quoted or have your claims challenged, you would not come here. There is nothing aimless about what I have said so far as my intention was to make it clear that you cannot be connected to the very same God whose messengers made clear does not connect directly with men. |

Kobojunkie: Maybe you should read this your sermon again... shey I have tried... Look... I know where you're going... you claim you don't fancy religion too but you believe in Jesus christ... that makes you a Christian... come off it.... and you even technically opposed christ in your above comment... am still yet to understand you o... leave me alone abeg... I don tire... shey you no de tire ni... ehn... abi which kind jehovah witness I kon jam like this for Nairaland... I even prefer a normal Christian than all these rainmakers carrying umbrella upandan... nawaoh |
Re: Can You Receive The Holy Spirit Without Speaking In Tongues? by Kobojunkie: 11:08pm On Apr 27, 2023 |
1950Mack:1. Jesus Christ is not a religion but a Constitutional Law. When you abide by the land or nation you belong, do you also believe that yourself as a result? Pay attention please. 2. Please go back and carefully read the post you quoted so you can get a better grasp of what I have said rather than try to push your meanings in to the post. |

Kobojunkie: Hehehehehe.... stop drinking paraga... say all your baliblu... man no be God... and you're not even close enough to God to be his clerk... lobatan Yes this is a public forum... but if your aim is to argue blindly then I repeat don't quote me.... you're not enlightened enough about how the spirit works... believe it or leave it |
