I would have been very ruthless to criminals and people who broke the law . I didn’t want to join the Army because I needed a job, I really loved the military and I still do. If I have the opportunity to join now, even as a second lieutenant I’ll do so and even if I am being told I’ll be sent to Sambisa. Is Nigerian military a duplicate of police? Then why not join the police instead to catch criminals and law breakers or become a lawyer to make them face the law. You sound like someone who doesn't know the job functions of the Military.

Well, maybe you mean criminals and law breakers like bandits and Boko haram! Cos, the last time I checked, the Nigerian army does shiiiit like this(beating civilians for no crime) and call it discipline, fight other security agency to show who's the top dog. They basically get themselves involved in civilian affairs.

Aside, fighting bandits, boko haram and militant groups, I don't understand their involvement in catching and torturing petty thieves on the street , going after drug guys, kidnappers, helping someone to beat someone in town, coming to town to fight police and burning down police stations, using Tata to enter university to fight students . They are not supposed to be seen regularly among civilians in cities. They like attention like biitchesss too much..

Nigerian soldiers have been mistreating civilians "just like that" for nearly half a century. And they do it because there are no consequences - the military high command enables this craziness and encourages it at every turn.

There is no 'whole story' to know.

If some U.S soldiers were to independently engage in some street fight(unarmed) somewhere in New york. Do you think the army would send a troop to come fight on their behalf by attacking the gangs, burning down places like Nigeria Army or NYPD would get involved first? Later,investigate to know who gets justice and who'll be punished in the fight.

If you say, we should not use one person's action to justify the rest. It is quite reasonable to say that but let that one person be responsible and punished for his action. However, come to think of it, these actions are repeated with nothing happening. Won't it become a pattern we should be worried about?

If generalizing is bad, then remember, we have good boko haram fighters, too. They were probably lured or whatever their excuses maybe. Hmmmm.

If the heat gets too much on this matter the Nigerian army commanders may (and its a big 'may') go through the motions of trying to discipline their men. More likely than not, they will do absolutely nothing.

Its their way.

And even if they do something about this particular matter, their instruction (behind closed doors) to the rank and file will be: "boys, henceforth make sure there's no video evidence, ok?"

Unfortunately, you criticized the hotel owner and said nothing about the soldiers - as if the soldiers had no agency. So if I asked them all to put their fingers in a blast furnace, they would do so?

The military on the other hand is an organization with a more opposite purpose. Even with it being a good institution, it will surely have some bad elements in it but that doesn't generally mean it is bad.

It's just like having a family where one son is a rascal and nuisance to the community, and you think you'll be doing justice to the other members of the family by using this particular child as a yardstick to judge the rest of the family members?.

As for punishing of these offenders which you clearly stated never happens, I completely disagree with you. I was born and brought up in the barracks, and now a personnel, I've seen actions taken upon such actors of indicipline which ranges from serving prison time, demotion, and even dismissal depending on the gravity of the offence.

Oga, you can go back and forth on comparison and analogy using one bad child in a family to make empty points to support the NA, it is like you don't pay attention to signs around or you are just pretending like the boyscout with arms not to care about the daily drama of oppression from a dirty army.
