Engryagulam:

Well, I am a mechanical engineering graduate that just obtained my licence as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Airframe and Powerplant). Beside my B.Eng and technical skills obtained through On The Job Trainings during my aviation course, I have also equipped myself in operations research, project management, financial management and production management. I am optimistic that the refinery will open doors to all and sundry.
Nigeria shall be great again.

Brother, the efforts are commendable. Add prayer to it. God will see you throgh

How do we make money in the supply chain?

Good question
This is another hidden area which I as the writer is hoping to tap from. This supply chain is a broad area and covers many field. It depends on your area of interest and knowledge.
A lot are required in the entire process of production ranging from raw materials, machines, human resources, to the dispatch of the finished goods.

In Engineering for example, a singular machine is an aggregate of many parts produced by many companies namely Siemens, Omron, Danfoss, ABB, G.D, Phoenix Contact, Mitsubishi, Sick, Pilz, etc. These machines are numerous with thousands of component parts from hundreds of manufacturers. In as much as production is ongoing, these parts keeps on failing and must be replaced. Its nearly impossible to keep spares of these parts in the engineering store because of the huge money involved, though some are critical and must be provided. Here, one can be rep to any of the manufacturers of these parts.

What about providing the raw materials, dispatching of finished goods, supplying byproducts to other companies ? What about auxiliary companies? Same applicable here.
How prepared are you?

2. Inventory Control Management

This is the second key words that should be added to your CV today.
Have you ever entered into an Igbo man big shop. Let's take for example spare parts. You will see variety of spares stacked in different positions. Ask a particular item, the shop owner will take some times to search for it and may tell you it has finished while that item may be hidden somewhere. This is a problem awaiting for solution which the young graduate should provide the solutions to business owners.

Just imagine a big industry, where you have different raw materials stocked piled in tons, varieties of machines and spare parts, finished goods etc. Unlike the shop owners, in industry, there are accurate records and locations for each of these materials.
Ask for any, the person in charge of the inventory will tell you the amount that remains, location, and usage.
There are many method of inventory management: BIN cards, SAP, etc. This is just to expose you to the topic, its left for you to dig deep on it.

How prepared are you?

Opportunity comes but once. The opportunity is here again for the prepared minds. Before my NYSC in 2004, I had a mindset to serve and be retained in a multinational company during my service year, that dream came to pass. One major thing from my years of industrial experiences lacking in Nigeria is MENTORSHIP. Young graduates roam about like sheep without Shepherd and most time end up in POS and KEKE businesses. This should not be so.
Do you know that the refinery is going to bring industrial revolution in Nigeria and Africa at large. Those prepared will be absorbed while the unprepared will continue the blame the government.
Not everybody will work in the refinery, majority will work in the offset of the refinery. There will be hundreds of auxiliary companies that will come onboard as affiliates. More production from oil companies, hence more job openings. Many experience hands will leave their present jobs and migrate to the refinery jobs, hence more vacancies in other sectors.
There will be placement for all the prepared minds irrespective of the course of study; Engineering, linguistics, medical, accounting, safety, foreign relation, statistics, chemistry, and so on.

I will be letting you know what you should do to increase your chances of being absorbed there.
Please indicate if you're following. We move.

The school system mentality is enslavingundecided to the extent that most graduates are eager for their time to be bought for years with peanut shocked , as for me I look forward to what business I can do with the refinery undecided. Office work at any level is a conventional slavery, las las no one can earn up to 10K USD per month in the refinery. And with supplying desiel and polythene to local small-scale factories in the neighboring country from the refinery I can make up to 20K USD /month

Company work is different from government work. You can be in government job and be earning salary without any reasonable input but not so in industrial circle.
Do you know how much barrels of oil needed to be produced in a day ? It's a lot of problems to achieve this !
As many people as possible who can offer solutions to solving these problems are needed.
Machine problems are there, skills problems are there, human problems are there, financial problems are there, safety problems are there, logistics problems are there, language problems are there, electricity problems are there, supply problems are there. In fact the problems are too numerous to mention !

The question now is - which of these problems do you have the capacity to solve ?
You are right , trust some Nigerians will take government job attitude with them to that industrial complex, some will be spotted early and fired while others would have caused a lot of damages before they are found.

Let’s hope they figure it out fast, cause the country needs that place to be at least 80% functional.

Am a successful business man, running my personal business at the moment and some earn salary under me.
I studied Electrical/Electronics Engineering in my first degree and did my masters in Control Engineering. I left company as an Automation manager. I was trained locally and internationally and had worked with many Expatriates across the globe. All through my service, it was all problem solving. The problems never ends and very fees hands were involved. I was working as an employee and running my business at the same time. The business grew and could pay my salary, I quit and became my own boss.
Am compelled by the level of unemployment in the country and youth involvement in crimes to render this unsolicited service. Am not here to make money so relax and learn from my over 15year industrial experiences
OP . I need a Job. HDN graduate BUSINESS Administration and Management.. I.T savvy too

You're very correct...so many job opportunities will emerge both directly and indirectly... Competent hands looking for new jobs, challenges and with connections will get that refinery jobs, thereby making their former positions vacant. But what can we youths do to take advantage?
you're talking about the youths who can defend their school result

The author is absolutely right. I am a graduate of Applied Geophysics who took so much interest in Electronics. I am an embedded systems enthusiast with about 6 years experience in the field. I realised that sometimes you just have to keep learning and practicing. I did couple of Coursera courses for certificates. Since I have the experience already. The very day I posted on LinkedIn, I got a remote freelance job in India. It was a hope that keeps me moving. I am confident now that I can stand where any electronics engineering graduate can also stand. It is all about how much you love to know more about what you are passionate about, and how much you are willing to sacrifice.
I do freelance work for final year students when it comes to building electronics projects and projects write ups also. I have a GPS product I am selling. By God's grace, I'm start my instruments fabrication house very soon. I made my passion my profession, everyday is just play and not seen as work.

The petrochemical division of the refinery will be huge. Value addition in the oil and gas sector worldwide has always served to leapfrog any economy.
