The bride-to-be is a graduate from akwa ibom, while the groom-to-be, on the other hand, is a pastor of one popular church in Nigeria, I won't mention the name of the church because not all their pastors are the same.

When they started the relationship, the pastor was rushing everything, he was like he can't wait to marry this pretty damsel.

According to the story, the parents of the both families have met each other, and some part of the traditional marriage has been done.
Everything was going according to plans, they even brought out a pre-wedding photo, which I myself saw on her Facebook. Here is how the marriage took a new twist,

Now, three days to the traditional marriage, the groom-to-be came out and said he's not getting married to the Bride anymore, that is no longer interested in the marriage.

When they asking why, he said it was because of the bride price list they gave to him.

Now, his church said there's no problem about that, that they will sponsor everything, the pastor still vehemently insisted that he is no longer interested in the marriage...

The parents of the girl said the marriage list is always open for negotiation, that it is not compulsory to pay everything at once, or even everything no the list to be paid,The young man still said no.

Now the marriage has been called off and the girl is heart-broken.

My Mom follow the mother of the bride-to-be to do the shopping.
They even invited so many people to the marriage ceremony but it unfortunately ended in the most unbelievable way...

What could possibly be the reason behind his decision?
Can a man go as far as performing some traditional marriage rite just to sleep with a girl?
Could it be because of the list?
Or can infantuation drive a man to do the unthinkable?
Could it be spiritual manipulation or just the matter of choice?

There must be something wrong some where

The woman may not be aware but the man was already done

Dont be surprise the man was still having double mind till he did the marriage introduction and was still contemplating if to go on or not

If the man didn't see a reason to back out even at the alter its fine but he did and no one knows the reason. Maybe the girl cheated on him and he found out and just want to lay the situation easy by blaming the marriage list just to save her face from shame.

Truth be told some girls before marriage will want to Bleep.com their previous boyfriend and know it is done but maybe he caught a wind of it and has decided he wouldn't go on with the marriage plans.

Ita only normal for a man to live and trust his girlfriend talk less of a wife to be..

If they pry him further he might disclose the real reason why and i would think maybe it's cause of infidelity.

A marriage that thw church knows about it will be wrong for him to say he disppsed her cus of infidelity.

Perhaps may have gotten some discomforting info about the bride which she didn't disclose to him earlier. The marriage list is just an excuse.

Na info like this dey cause sudden breakup of. Marriage plans. That's why it's good for intending couples to disclosed necessary info about themselves to their spouse

Why should bride price list be subject to "negotiation"? Are they selling a goat or a cow that you will need to price? What is wrong in giving your in-law to be a reasonable list?

Why are SOUTH-SOUTH and SOUTH EAST people like this? Don't come and attack me, I am from the SOUTH EAST too. I think State Governments need to step in and put a cap on the price list that bride family can hand over to a groom to be.

It could likely be that negotiations broke down and he changed his mind.

Perhaps he didn't think it was worth it anymore.

Perhaps he didn't want to deal with "difficult" in-laws.

Perhaps he felt disrespected by in-laws during the negotiations, e.g. if his in-laws made a disrespectful remark like "your mates are dashing their in-laws money and you're here pricing brideprice".

Perhaps the brideprice was just an excuse, he may have already lost his attraction but used the brideprice as escape ticket

Many things could've prompted his decision, only he and the girl's family can tell us

But my question is, why do some parts in Nigeria make traditional weddings full of unnecessary items ? I thought items are supposed to be symbolic, why all the financial burden especially if the "couple to be" are just starting life.
