2023 U-20 W/Cup: Flying Eagles End Unwanted Record, Stun Argentina To Reach Q/finals

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles sent hosts Argentina out of this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup after recording a 2-0 win in Wednesday’s round of 16 match, Completesports.com reports.

Second half goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Haliru Sarki saw Ladan Bosso's side edge out the record U-20 World Cup winners.

This is the first time ever the Flying Eagles will defeat a South American team at the U-20 World Cup since their debut in the competition in 1983.

After a goalless first half the Flying Eagles opened scoring in the 61st minute through Muhammad.

In the 92nd minute Sarki then added the second goal to send Nigeria into the last eight.

The Flying Eagles will now take on either Ecuador or South Korea in the quarter-finals billed for Sunday, June 4.

In Wednesday’s other round of 16 games, Brazil thrashed Tunisia 4-1 while Italy edged England 2-1.

Moved to the right-back position again after the 2-0 defeat to Brazil. Contributed to the attack but his recovery was slow.

Proved his class with another solid showing in central defence.

ABEL OGWUCHE 7/10
The Trelleborgs FF of Sweden defender is having a good tournament. Another good performance from the centre-back.

SOLOMON AGBALAKA 7/10
Probably his best performance of the competition so far. Performed his defensive duties well and also contributed to the attack.

DANIEL DAGA 9/10
Nigeria’s best performer on the night. He was a delight to watch all through.

SAMSON LAWAL 7/10
Worked real hard in midfield to keep the Argentines at bay.

He was selected ahead of Victor Eletu and didn’t disappoint his coaches.
