That's the thing with Nigerian parents. They don't care about how you feel. All they care about is their ego and reputation. Because you refuse to do things their way, they start to threaten you.
And they do all sort of things to hurt your self-esteem and humiliate you thinking you will change not knowing it builds a very large chasm between them and their children. Then they start to wonder why their kids avoid them or stop talking to them as they grow older.

Some issues do not require condemnation or insults or "God" to solve. Sometimes it needs civil conversations, heart to heart talk, confessions, reasoning and above all LOVE.

What the father needs to do is to continiously pray for his child, and (continue to) tell her how much he and God love her regardless.
She's going through issues.
God's love heals.

I can't believe she was talking to her father that way, what a foolish girl.

Parents may be old fashioned and annoying sometimes but that should not bring them insults especially from their children.

First of all, the father using the doom of hell to torment her into accepting his own values is ridiculous and underhanded for a parent. Threatening your child with Hell is bullsheet, and against Jesus Christ by the way since only those who are born-again can experience Hell to begin with. Second, if as a parent you cannot come up with a rational reason for why your kid shouldn't do something then it is best to allow said child to explore his or her own options and face the consequences. Resorting to belittling and threatening is underhanded, and unbecoming of a parent.

Nothing mental health here. If it were a boy who turned to COLOS we'd say he is irresponsible,or a bad child.

This is one of many cases where religious parents lose their strong grip on their children.

To put myself in the man's shoes, Supposing my daughter suddenly decided to start attending church, given my own disdain for church, I'd also panic. I'd certainly attempt to pull up every argument under my belt on why not to go to church..

No evil done by the dad here. Just a worried man. After all, if you're a lion and your child starts acting like a hyena, you'd definitely panic.

What we must learn to accept is, sometimes, our kids deviate from our own values.

Out-of-herd behavior is common, the question is, how do we recalibrate the behavior of the lost sheep back to that of the herd? For me, depends on what behavior was adopted by the kid. She better not me still depending on me because, na den you go know say, independence of mind will draw in financial independence. IDAN of mental health, go find work. .

Mental health issues should not be played with. A lot of so called well trained kids feel imprisoned around their parents and their rigid structure and that's why you see them act wildly when they get a little freedom.

I'm not supporting the girl's attitude towards her dad but Nigerian parents need to change their perception/ways of parenting. You can't continue treating your kids like your parents did to you without acknowledging the changes going on in the world.

We Nigerians need to start rising awareness to mental health,it's triggers and solutions. A lot of kids are under enormous pressure at home because of their parents method of parenting. Most parental method used in Nigeria can best be described as tyranny and would earn you jail terms in saner civilization.

There we go again. The "mental health" blackmail/charade. I don't know whata going on with them, but it is never a good idea to drag your parents to the internet.
