House Of Reps Calls For Outright Removal Of Subsidies by peekspot(op): 7:26pm On Jun 02, 2023
The House of Representatives is asking the Federal Government to remove subsidies on all petroleum products.

The House made this resolution after adopting the report of its ad-hoc committee which investigated the country’s subsidy regime.

The lawmakers, however, want the FG to immediately design measures and palliatives to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal for Nigerians effectively through the provision and procurement of CNG Busses as an alternative Transport System with Cheaper Fuel Consumption, as well as introduce intermodal, regional and national transport system to ease mass movement of people across the country.

The legislators also called for further investigation through a forensic audit by the office of the Auditor General of the Federation to ascertain whether the N413billion borrowed from the CBN for subsidy payments was refunded after the passage and assent of the 2015 budget as earlier approved by the President.

And following the subsidy removal, the lower chamber further wants the government to suspend all Direct Sales Direct Purchase (DSDP) contracts.

Useless, wicked and insensitive bunch of jokers called Leaders. The proceeds from the removal of this subsidy would be looted by Tinubu and his cronies. This economic policy is inimical and detrimental to the interests of the common Nigerians

Removal is already a foregone conclusion...!

However, cushioning and palliatives should have been put in place long before now!

You don't place the cart before the horse...!

Very good move. Those fiercely opposed to the subsidy removal, are benefiting from it.But the president must not be swayed by them but stand firmly like a rock on the decision.
Nigeria must be better.

Nigeria has no option at moment. The debt profile is staggering. Removal of subsidy is the only way out of the mounting debts and endless borrowing to subsidize fuel for the entire West African subregion. Remove subsidy and smuggling will cease.

Why can't you be positive for once.
You even said you are dying... Na wa o!

If you die now Nigeria won't miss you...
Pray this government succeeds so that we can all benefit. Leave politics, political affiliations or dislike for the current president aside for now.... He is our president as per reality and if he fails, then we will all have more troubles...

Be optimistic and patient a bit more.
Things can't get any worse than it was under Buhari. This pain is like pain of circumcision. Once it heals, na to dey do fine boy o but the short pain will first be there...
There shall be light soon..

Removing or not removing subsidy what has that got to do with an average Nigerian. We can't be producing oil and be paying from our nose for it. Nature gave us oil to soften our lives in that aspect. Govt has to do all it could to make us enjoy what nature blessed us with! This is pure common sense ...
As if we will even see anything the money is used for except the echelon looting and relooting tuehh!
