Experts in the house, I need an explanation to how this fuel price hike will affect the economy. Obviously there will be inflation, but what is the implication on the economy.

Shocking! Is it a crime to ask a question? Your response is too toxic and very unnecessary undecided

In the short-term, economic hardship/difficulties/challenges will be experienced by many. However, in the long-term, things could very well improve if the BAT blueprint below is anything to go by (IF they get implemented). Else, consider the other advisory steps below as alternatives for coping with the fuel price hike wink

Which investments are you particularly referring to? TBills?
Foodempire:
With the current price of fuel, rates should go up to at least 17%. How can we cushion the effect of subsidy removal with the meagre interest we receive on investments? I bought 5k worth of fuel today and kept checking my dashboard to see the gauge, eventually I switched off the AC, I say to my self I need to work harder so as to earn more, it's well.

Yes Tbills and mutual funds. Do you know of any other that pay close to 15% at the moment?

Hello great people, please can we project likelihood of outcomes given the planned devaluation of the naira or the collapse of the multiple exchange rates? If the exchanges are collapsed to one and made to free float, what happens to the black market and black market rates in the short or long run? What happens to the holders of dollar? What impact will it have on imported product prices and inflationary effect on economy?
Please great economic guys help

Rates can't be equal, there must be a significant variation between black market and the official rate. If you have been hoarding dollar keep hoarding and even buy more, if the news of devaluation comes out to be true , there will be initial panic sellout but when the dust is settled the black market will shoot up so I think this is the right time to possess more dollars . Inflation will bite harder as traders restock in few days, the petrol hike will be felt by many sectors, the wise ones will re-strategize to stay afloat while the fools will get poorer by grumbling and folding hands, las las we all gonna be alright.

In that case, I'll rather go for mutual funds instead.
But mind you TB is tax free, devoid of hidden charges and can easily be liquidate before maturity as compared to FD
