The Lack Of Adequate Employment In Nigeria by Deiyvismiwa: 1:16pm On Jun 09, 2023
The lack of adequate employment opportunities in Nigeria has become a pebble in the shoes of most Nigerians; finding a job that matches our skills and aspirations has become a great challenge. However, we can continue to wail or think of solutions to this problem. For example, we could foster and support entrepreneurship amongst ourselves - so if you have a friend or acquaintance with a small business, support that small business. Vocational training programs that equip individuals with practical skills for in-demand industries could also be encouraged - not just in schools, if you have a skill which you can teach, especially to the children and adolescents in secondary schools and even tertiary institutions.

These efforts could encourage the government and private sector to invest in sectors with the potential to create more jobs, like technology, renewable energy, and agriculture. Let's finally use this platform to share success stories, job opportunities, and advice for job seekers. Together, we can make a difference and tackle Nigeria's employment challenges.

Varieties

From Plantain tress to plantain chips which covers the whole value chain in this crop to

Broiler production

To

Maize cultivation

Nigerians are not averse to investments so many of us have given up and have began to take a more lengthy journey to become the industrialists we envision ourselves as. It may take time but we are working behind the scene and would eventually get there. Tired if making tons of proposals begging people to come prosper ( invest ) only to be mistreated

Nigerians are lazy..
With too much pride

There are many job sectors like .
Cleaning the roads and collecting refuse
Not body wants to do that
Everybody wants collar job with office blowing A C

Agriculture sector is heavily lacking in youths. All youths want fast money and agriculture takes patience dedication and discipline which this generation lack

My point is that in reality
There is no job scarcity .
What we have in Nigeria is job saturation
Youths have saturated certain sectors while neglecting other sectors.
Tell a youth to go into carpentry in this Time too generation, they will call you evil uncle that don't want them to progress

There are job sectors that are avoided by the youths.. Due to prestige or ego.
But when they travel abroad they don't mind washing dishes in restaurant and doing garbage man.

There are no jobs in Nigeria, but there are side hustles and WORK you can turn into a full time job.

Stop complaining, nobody is coming to save you....

Nigerians are really suffering and it's tough out there.

Here's an escape route if you need one.

Enter street go start business, boss.

Leave this modern slavery thing called job.

Use your brain and social media please.

Tech (Digital Marketing) , combine it with Buying and selling.

Learn how to run facebook and instagram ads PROFESSIONALLY.

I'm a 5 star salesman, paid advertising newbie , that's the skill you need to master now in Nigeria to make money daily.

I can sell water to a well...

If you are in Lagos or any of the cosmopolitan cities, you need some tools.

- Phone , internet , Laptop (not necessary) , facebook, instagram page, twitter, jumia, konga, facebook maeketplace, etc.

- go and learn how to run ads.

- know how to take good pictures.

- use a good logistics company for deliveries.

Enter street, look for big time importers, negotiate with them. Tell them you will bring customers and sell thier products very fast.

One of the hot products i started out with and grew it to a 6 figure business > >

Not just money...

You will build your confidence.
Your influence will grow, and...
You’ll attract more opportunities to yourself.
You need to start operating smartly.

Look for a business that is offline, bring it online and get them SALES.
Thank me later when you hit your first M

None of the governors are even concerned bout empowerment even for some little stake..

If he builds a single road project, he would be applauded for doing well hence, a second term in office awaits the slowpoke.

This is what the masses have settled with

Very shameful indeed☹️

There are lots strategies to reduce unemployment in Nigeria.

**Strategy 1# Use of Labour-intensive Technology:**

Both the organised and un-organised sectors must adopt labour-intensive technology if sufficient employment opportunities are to be generated in both the rural and urban sectors of the economy. To labour intensity, suitable monetary and fiscal measures need to be adopted to discourage the use of capital-intensive techniques.

**Strategy 2# Accelerating Investment in Agriculture:**

Second, an important reason for slow growth of employment in agriculture and rural sector has also been a shortfall in investment or capital formation in agriculture. Both the public and private sector investment in agriculture has declined since the early nineties. Of special importance from the viewpoint of employment generation is investment in irrigation, rural roads, flood control projects, power generation and other infrastructure.

It is worth noting that investment not only generates employment directly but also has a multiplier effect which operates through backward and forward linkages.

**Strategy 3# Diversification of Agriculture:**

Besides there is urgent need for diversification of agriculture. For example, there is an urgent need for a relative shift from growing of crops to horticulture, vegetable production, floriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries etc. which are more labour absorbing and higher income-yielding. In addition to this, promotion of agro-processing industries for export purposes has a large employment potential.

For the rapid growth of employment opportunities in agriculture and related sectors and agro-processing industries, investment in infrastructure including irrigation, rural reads, power supply, and development of agricultural markets are required.

**Strategy 4# Labour-Intensive Industrial Growth:**

For solving unemployment problem in the urban areas, the organised industrial sector must also absorb a sufficient number of workers. The failure of the organised industrial sector to generate enough employment opportunities is due to the use of capital-intensive technologies imported from abroad.

Therefore, to encourage the use of relatively more labour-intensive technologies and thereby to generate more employment opportunities, fiscal and monetary concessions on use of capital must be withdrawn. In this case there is bound to be some loss of workers’ productivity. Therefore, this will involve some trade-off between employment and output. In our view, because unemployment problem is very serious and greatly hurts people’s welfare, some growth of output is worth sacrificing for more employment opportunities.

**Strategy 5# Services and Employment Growth:**

The growth of services in India has a large employment potential. In 1993-94 to 1999-2000, next to the construction sector the employment elasticity of output growth in services was higher and was estimated at about 0.50. Of special mention are software services and BPO (Business Processing Outsourcing) which have a lot of employment potential, especially for the educated youth of the country.

The other services such as finance, insurance, trade, hotels, and restaurants have also a lot of employment potential. But an important thing to note is that growth of these services is dependent on industrial and agricultural growth in the economy.

**Strategy 6# Education, Health and Employment Generation:**

Lastly, the expansion of education and health care not only promotes accumulation of human capital and thereby contributes to growth of output, it will also generate a good deal of employment opportunities. More schools, hospitals, health care clinics in the rural and urban areas will not only create employment during their construction but also, and more important, when they start working to provide education and health services. Their working provides employment to both the educated and unskilled persons. Therefore, a higher allocation of resources is required to be made for them in government budgets and in our future plans.

Just Rhetoric and stop gap measures.
I've always opined that the disaster that country is facing could have been prevented a long time ago (1950s - 1990s) when most asian powers began to industrialize, the question I am yet to get answers to is what were the baby boomers and their parents / grandparents doing then.
A Chinese proverb says "The best time to plant a tree is a twenty years ago, the second best time is now", meaning it is not too late to start doing what is right and what are those things.
Yo have an economy (oil reliant one) whose size is less than 600B USD and a population more than 200M with a GDP per Capita of less 2.5K USD and you expect not to have massive unemployment, poverty and underdevelopment. Just to provide context here Holland (the Netherlands) has a population of less than 20M and over 1 trillion dollar economy (insanely high GDP per Capita), ROK has 50M population with more than 1.8 trillion dollar economy (also good GDP per Capita) so you could expect unemployment to be low here, high HDI and good standard of living.
The only way to solve the problem of unemployment is to start providing values across the globe and that will require the folks in power to start doing what is right.
