seguntijan: Civil Societies Coalition for Fuel Subsidy RemovalI didn't know that in Nigeria we had a civil society group formed specifically for fuel subsidy removal. Where have they been all this while? Are there civil society groups for free japa, for bad roads, for oil theft etc? So it is the president that changed fuel price. I thought you guys said that by removing subsidy, market forces will determine price? When did Tinubu become "market forces"? What exactly is Tinubus dream? What are the stakeholders he has met and how did he get them to fall in line with his vision? Did he also meet with this civil society group on fuel subsidy removal? |

EngGandalf:Stf guy. Tinubu opposed subsidy during Jonathan era for selfish reasons. Now he wants us to support him 100%. Well, everyone including Peter Obi wants subsidy to go but Tinubu should have layout adequate measures to minimize its effects on the common man. It's only in Africa a leader will just wake up in the morning and take a drastic action on economy without providing a cushioning effects for the poor masses. |

MondayOsunbor:At all. Fuel Subsidy is the one that is committing the crime. Fuel Subsidy is a human being. No need to ask questions about how NNPCL is being managed . Let's all focus on removal fuel Subsidy because it is the cause of all Nigerias problems. Now that it has been removed, all the problems in Nigeria have been solved |

Fuel subsidy is part of democracy dividends for the poor masses. There should also be food subsidy, shelter subsidy etc. Aside subsidy, what tangible thing do we gain from govt? |

lexy2014:Removing subsidy is good because it will stop government from wasting funds and enriching very few capitalist bourgeoisie in the petroleum upstream and downstream sectors. |

OyinO:How was government wasting funds? How was fuel subsidy being used in "enriching very few capitalist bourgeoisie in the petroleum upstream and downstream sectors"? Who are these "very few capitalist bourgeoisie in the petroleum upstream and downstream sectors" you are talking about? |

Jonathan wanted to do it more than 10 years ago, the west ganged up against him through their media and protest until he stopped. Buhari tried, they did the same until few months to his departure, he stopped paying silently. Now that Tinubu their son and a big stakeholder in the western media houses, the same media houses are now supporting him, every corner of the western region singing praises of this move. What changed? Why was it bad in 2011, bad in 2015 but not bad in 2023? Make una dey play. |

Which civil societies? The ones that occupied Nigeria and the whole wide world to undermine Goodluck Jonathan even though his message wasn't any different than today's? |

Preaching to the converted. What is all the appeal about when the average Nigerian has accepted it has to go and it has gone. What Nigerians are concerned about is the inflationary effects about which the government has said NOTHING in the week since gasoline prices increased more than 100%. One would have expected that the government will have announced a series of inflationary taming measures ahead of markets of various economic designations so that the public is assured the fallout will be minimal but they continue to stand idly by while transport fares have galloped, closely following with certainty are food prices and in the next few weeks other soft commodity prices will surge. By the time they wake up I hope the cost of durable goods will not have been impacted if not it will be over, Nigeria will be headed for serious economic problems. The time for them to act is now that price rises are limited to soft goods. Nigerians should wake up to realise that subsidy removal alone is not the silver bullet that will kill the eternal vampire of economic woes. It is just the entrance, the door way to opportunity. The economy still has to be properly managed in a cerebral manner and with dexterity. And the battle against inflation is key as it is in all progressive economies of the world at the moment. Nigeria should do likewise. |

My only fear is that it shouldn't turn out to be another scam from the government. That's how they spurned naira redesign policy and it turned out to be suffering and still no respite. |

slawomir:With the weed you always claim to be smoking, I expected you to be smarter like this. Implementation stage of policies will always go a long way to determine the success of such policy, your GEJ did not do his at the write time coupled with his lack of actions as a president. But for Tinubu, a man who singlehandedly defeated the northern cabal, someone that rose to the presidency on a controversial Muslim-muslim ticket, a person that lambasted the sitting president by telling him to his face that he installed him as president and nothing happened, forget. Just look at how Tinubu announced the removal, on his inaugural speech, a day many expected to be Jolly and full of excitement, he caught everyone unaware and before we all know what, the subsidy is a history. TINUBU IS A MAN WITH BALLS and that is the huge difference between the two leaders. |

Only 8m people voted for BAT...though he won the elections, but he lost the votes, right? About 15m people voted against him, officially. That's enough mass to generate good momentum if called for protests. Please do us the honour of calling the dissenters for protests.....if 8m are tribalists, call the 15m nationalists. Period! slawomir: |

GLeesMODEL:We want subsidy removal but not under the current working conditions and lack of simple social amenities... There should be a policy or provision to cushion the effect of subsidy removal just like the government of Edo State has implemented some. |
