Football has changed. Many of the fullbacks of 10-15yrs ago would not make the team these days. Imagine having John O'Shea and Wes Brown as full backs and winning titles.
What GKs were asked to do 10-15yrs ago is very different from now. Petr Cech was a turnover machine in his last years because he was asked to be a ball-playing GK.

My support for De Gea has to do with his mostly harsh criticism from his haters who only see his mistakes, non of them praised him for his many wonderful performances for the team. How do one blame De Gea for a lose where the outfield players where rubbish? Your attackers are missing sitters, midfielders cannot control games or even give a 2 yard pass but they somehow see all this as De Gea's fault.
I wanted him gone, i even made a post on Twitter last year about us needing a Goalkeeper who can command his area and very good with ball distribution, i defend him here cos he is harshly criticised when we lose game, but the haters keep quiet or celebrate when we win like in the Carabao Cup final. We need a better goalkeeper next season, i don't understand the reason he is being offered a new deal...

The aim is to build a team that will totally dominante a game and rarely concede chances. That's why everyone keeps hammering on playing out from the back. Onana is a really good shot stopper as well. The inter he plays for is not even known for total domination of games and he does really well.

You need to get it to your head that any player that's simply not good enough will get harsh criticisms. I love Degea and what he's achieved for us in the past. But even at his prime, he was only really excellent at one thing and that's shot stopping. He's become so average at this last 2 or 3 years. What we're hanging on to is nostalgia from his prime days.

2 seasons ago it was McFred. Last season it was Maguire. This season it's been Degea. If Degea leaves, the next below-par player that starts regularly next season will get dragged.

That's the way it works when you play for a team like United. There's no hiding place.
