Op. I haven't heard u talk about curl leave virus attack on ur okra. Don't u experience it? If u do pls, what do u spray to cure the plants?
It affects my okra mostly during the rainy season
Re: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(m): 4:03pm On Jun 18, 2023
Thank you mention it. It has been ravaging most of the farm around me too. I didn’t plant during this raining season so it really disint affect it.
The main issue is it’s a viral infection hence good viable seed and good agricultural management are the two main factors I can say can help out in this situation. @Oluchidelly and other Okro farmers please contribute

Okro can be planted all year round. Don’t dull this moment o . Prices are good in the market right now. Don’t forget to get good seeds that’s your best bet against this ravaging leaf curl

Thanks for your comment. It’s all over farms here too. The name of the virus is Okro yellow vein mosaic virus. It is majorly transmitted by whitefly. So the main thing to do is try and curb whitefly infestation on your farm as soon as your plant emerges. Good management system is your best bet against it.

Yes my sister it is an outbreak but can be managed by curbing whitefly. I had it on my farm too but the effect was minimal.

Op, pls can you kindly tell us the name of the foliar fertilizers you using, so that novice like us can easily get it. Thanks
Jub101:

I use a urea(nitrogen) based foliar fertilizer for the first 3weeks then I stopped. Am using a 20L knapsack so I use 100ml. I apply once in a week only.

Thank you my brother, farming really can be funny sometimes you might have all the right things but it’s some unexpected factor e.g rain especially might mess everything up. We just don’t give up here sha, we go again and again with every new experience we have gathered through the years consistently .

From my personal experience the okra leaf curl mosaic virus is still out there ravaging many farms and making dry season Okro farming very difficult this year. I sense a high scarcity of Okro by January next year guys. Happy New Month
Re: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(m): 2:54pm On Dec 02, 2023
Good management (both insect especially whiteflies and weeds that accommodate them)practices can really help with the virus
