There are so many reasons why this is good. It is like car registration

1. You cannot steal a vehicle and go for Proof of Ownership. If the car has been declared wanted, you are going to be in big trouble.
2. If a car is sold, the new owner will be forced to get his own proof of ownership and justify the purchase.
3. This is done in sane countries...in Maryland USA, I think its biannually
4. It can also be used to enforce...Police can ask for Proof of Ownership and verify the documents with NIN/IDs
5. Even if you try to repaint or change a stolen vehicle, you will still need to have proof of sale and submit documents for Proof of Ownership

Yes, is it extra tax on the people that have vehicles...yes, but it will also provide JOBS JOBS JOBS and open up another way to generate revenues to pay those workers.

Like I told someone before...US/UK pay so many different taxes, and that is how they are also able to provide so many different types of jobs or contracts.

US Military spending alone is greater than almost all countries combined...You have Haliburton, GE, Boeing, Amazon, Google...all of them get Govt contracts. You have IRS and officers that collect and enforce taxation. You have Federal Police, different from State Police and Local Govt or County Police and you also have City Police...State Highway Police and so on. Govt pays for all of them and use the same taxes...FireHouse and workers in every few streets, Medicaid for elderly which opened job opportunities that people run to...Nursing, Doctor and so on. Even IT and CyberSecurity is due to Govt spending.

So if you want more jobs private or public, you must take and distribute. Rich people that have 10 cars will have to pay N10,000 per year...which is nothing to them.

I support this move for all of the reasons above. If you cannot pay N1000 per year, you should not be driving please and thank you.

From what you typed, is it like you are ignorant on how things are done in Nigeria or you just chose to sound unrealistic because u support Tinubu.

Who are those that steal cars in Nigeria? Do they steal the cars to use or what do they do with stolen cars?

When a person wants to collect plate number in Nigeria, is proof of ownership exempted from the process?

Can a person collect license plate for a vehicle that isn't his or hers?

When a vehicle is sold second hand in Nigeria is there no proof of sale or proof of transfer of ownership?

Is it in Nigeria that taxes are used to create jobs?

Why have all the previous taxes not created all the much needed jobs in private and public sector?

If you feel that a Nigerian living in Nigeria shouldn't be driving because he or she can't afford 1k for proof of ownership, can you tell us what you are doing in America?

People that have jobs and money must pay more taxes...those taxes are then used to create jobs for more people to work and pay more taxes...that is how the Western Nation works. Our folks run to UK to work as Nurses...why? NHS because NHS taxes everyone and uses the money to pay Nurses, Doctors and so on...you also have IT jobs...most IT companies get Govt contracts. Its a symbiotic relationship.

Where is that done?

You will pay it,one k annually for a vehicle proof of ownership is nothing,if you get 50 vehicles that is your business.

The issues is that you forgot to use your head because of tribalism or religion. There are high possibilities that the #1k now will soon be increased to #5000 in the nearest future. You also forgot that this new policy will only open another office for the useless and fraudulent police armed robbers to start harassing motorists all in the name of checking the validity of their new proof of ownership, shun tribalism use your head to think for once

Tinubu the drug Lord. Hahahaha huhuhuh bruharuuubbbavava.

What a lofty idea. Very nice. 1000 is too small. I suggest 10k per vehicle, per annum. Easy annual cash generation to be funnelled straight into foreign private bank accounts of his cronies.

Don't mind the idiot. In the UK, as is the case across Europe, when you buy a car, a section of the car ownership document is completed and sent to the DVLA who updates their system and then sends the new document to the new keeper or owner free of charge.

So the vehicle renewal fee or road worthiness paid annual is not enough evidence that I own the vehicle. I still have to pay POC for them to know I'm the vehicle owner.

So fees are not taxes...NHS does not tax...but Govt does...who runs NHS lol. Anyways, since you cant read between the lines...Govt uses taxes to run NHS and pay doctors and nurses...the jobs we run to in the UK

seunayantokun:

NHS does not tax but the government tax workers - personal income tax, national insurance. Businesses are taxed, inheritances are taxed, etc. Migrants are taxed by way of NHS surcharge - so that you enjoy health services free at the point of delivery. They pay it during visa application process before they enter the UK to join other tax payers to cough out dues as they make money .

All the people complaining don't have a vehicle. How can they cry for 1k for every 12 months when they spend more than that for servicing

Lots of them will angrily talk about this while drinking 5 bottles of beer in a sitting.

I don’t have a problem renewing my car documents every year but this right here is a daylight scam which must be rejected regardless of the amount. Proof of Ownership Certificate is like a title certificate issued once. It only changes when ownership of the car changes. Why must you renew such every year? Sincerely answer the last statement. If this is allowed to fly, other levies will follow.

Point to correct you on number 3, no part of uS they pay Proof of Ownership Certificate. The equivalent of this certificate is Title certificate which is issued by motor vehicle bureau or department. This is only issued one time. This shows the car is yours. This is passed on to another person that buys the car. Another title certificate is issued to the new owner. So, at what time would you be asked to obtain another title certificate if you didn’t sell your car? This isn’t about the 1K for renewal but doing what is just. If this is allowed to fly, other charges will follow.

When you finish rejecting, you will pay it.

They simply need to go to court to have the levy declared as Illegal. The fact that it is not announced directly by the Joint Tax Board shows there are issues with it.
