Why can't Anambra be the biggest beneficiary of such?

Anambra can’t be the biggest beneficiary…at least for now, until the political-economy and structure of Nigeria changes! Or until Nigeria disintegrates and everyone answers their papa name! As of now, the political-economy in place since the late 60s has economically and politically disproportionately favoured Lagos….and later Abuja, and this was deliberate!

I haven’t seen the numbers, but i’d wager the major international airports in Rwanda and Ethiopia (both landlocked countries) are doing much better than Lagos airport….especially as a percentage of their population!

Politicians constitues a very insignificant percentage of population. Airport traffic is generated by middle-class.
The more reason why it is the politicians that are greatly impacting the stats.
Politicians from the 36 states travel multiple times to and fro Abuja with the slightest excuses.
They do this mainly by plane.
If it were solely due to the middle class,Lagos state has the highest number of middle class in Nigeria more than any other state.

I'm not talking about Nkpor and Obosi, I'm asking what Imo state is doing in your map.
You are beginning to sound shallow.

But you claimed that every big politician from other regions lives in Lagos. E be like say they no longer live in Lagos but now travelling to Abuja from their states

You are already sounding extra shallow to claim parts of Imo state make up Onitsha metro area.

Lol, the bigots thought that Lagos has arrived and nothing can shake it again, so they started threatening other Nigerians. Unfortunately for them, nothing is static because human existence is dynamic in nature.

If Warri people were told in the 1980's that their once economically vibrant city would today be reduced to a shanty town were Keke riders and POS operators are the big boys, they won't believe it.

If Jos people were told that their city with nice climate and beautiful scenery where foreigners and Nigerians rush to, will today become almost forgotten, they will never believe it.

Same will happen to Lagos if the bigots are not stopped. Already, the property sector in Lagos has been hit badly. If you doubt me, ask estate developers or property agents in Lagos.

Airport traffic also shows that Abuja that is less than a quarter of population of Lagos has overtaken Lagos! Abuja that is far from reaching its peak! Compared to Lagos that is nearing saturation point. Then you will see that Lagos is already declining!

They should continue with their ronu battle cry, body go soon tell them!

The history of the mighty US of A is replete with the rise and fall of once great cities that once attracted millions of people who came to live and earn a living! Demographics and migrations change for a myriad of political, economic and (in the case of Lagos) xenophobic reasons!

I agree with your post, but would just like to add that the decline of cities like Warri, Jos….and even other once great and evolving cities in Nigeria, had more to do with political and social engineering from the centre in conjunction with the seat of the hegemonic caliphate! The unfair Nigerian political-economy instituted and driven by these same characters is primarily responsible for the eventual decline witnessed in the aforementioned cities!

Same way parts of Ogun make up Lagos metro area and parts of Nassarawa make up Abuja metro areas. Place like PH, Aba, Ibadan do not have urban sprawl like Onitsha. Guy, grow up. State has nothing to do with Urban sprawl. Metroplolitan area are measured by population cluster, nothing concern state boundaries. Thank God it's Imo state not anywhere in South south before you bring your south south madness into it

You are living in illusion. Why don't you say Onitsha is part of Owerri metropolitan area?

Because Onitsha is larger. I advice you to focus on your PH. Onitsha beats PH in your own data

Why do you find it difficult to Include Asaba, just across the river, into Onitsha metro area but wouldn't mind travelling down hundreds of kilometres into Imo state? grin

No matter where you live,as a politician, you must frequent Abuja.Take gov Adeleke as an example, this month only,he has gone to Abuja severally. His flight will be counted for Abuja and his base.
So goes for most of the politicians.

The apple cart is already tilting towards Abuja with owerri about to overtake ph.

By the time igbo relocation gains traffic, Abuja to/ from owerri traffic will become the mainstay of domestic flights. I think enugu lost some steam because of anambra airport
when did Anambra Airport start operation
