Do you all think the assertions of the survey in the linked article below is true? I saw it on r/programming subreddit and I thought I should share and learn the thoughts of other developers. I don't think Ruby pays the most in Nigeria. I think we have more of PHP, JavaScript and Python developers here and especially the first too. I'm a Ruby dev though and of course it pays good. Of course Ruby is among the top 5 paying technologies globally and that's based on stackoverflow's last 2 developers survey. https://codesubmit.io/blog/software-engineer-salary-by-country/ 1 Like |

Depends on the field you're in For web dev , Ruby pays the most along with PHP For graphics cpp pays the most For Enterprise, Java pays the most For cloud and low level, go pays the most but C does pay sometimes For data, ai and quant, Python pays the most |

Chaii Not surprised Nigeria is at the bottom, but didn't expect India to be there, or am I missing something? tensazangetsu20:Any idea on Rust, or it's a lost cause in this country? |

KrazyDave16:I don't think you should learn anything with the Nigerian job market in mind. The economy has even shrank and is still shrinking. |

tensazangetsu20:That sucks. Also, not learning Rust based on the current job market in this country and outside of it, it's majorly for some pet project(s) and contributing to its ecosystem. Plus, I got my current job, and doing some side gigs, so no issues for now. If any job or doable gig shows up based on my future works irrespective of how bad things are, it's a win. |

Purvan:I won't say everywhere. In North America and other places, safe to add Nigeria to the list, there are no Rust jobs. Europe, though the lang is not as popular as C++, there are jobs, though they're scarce and I won't meet the requirements anytime soon for the ones I've come across. There are Haskell jobs out there as well, though not popular. Also, I'm not learning Rust to answer "tech bro" or whatever they call em these days or make tech money, it's just for personal use, not aggressively chasing for a spot in the job market. If the language blow in the future, good If it doesn't, good. Already got Python, though I hate it (deps conflict and other reasons) |

I'm not even sure if there are any in Nigeria. Ruby used to be quite popular in the early to mid 2000s. These days it's quite nichy but it pays quite well. I feel in Nigeria it's mainly PHP and JavaScript. Of course there are those using other languages perhaps for hobby or side projects. tensazangetsu20: |
