I didn't choose my first car, it chose me!

As a first, most people bought the available at the time and not the desirable which directly implies that they bought the cheapest car available.

Toks Opel omega 2001 model, the only time I drove it was when I was in the drivers seat while it was towed from point of purchase to the mechos! After many months of trial and error, na the mechanic gan gan help me call Opel dealer wey come buy am as ngbuka for 60k back in 2011. I bought it for 100k.

I was only 21 after NYSC, I never get sense.
Hahaha. Your car chose you?

Gave 350k to an importer to get a car in 2007. He came with a Nissan Sunny two doors and I was disappointed. I was expecting a Camry grin
Subsequent, I have gone to Cotonou to see the car before it is shipped

I wanted a fuel efficient car.
Toyota dealers were making yanga, even my small budget no reach Honda.
Settled for a Nigerian used Hyundai Accent. the previous owner, a friend to a friend, assured me that the engine will last me.

And sure it has. Bought it at 75k millage, now approaching 200k millage and still overtaking Corolla

Manual transmission Volkswagen Jetta. Very nice car. I sold it in 2005 to process a school in the UK and lost all the money to scammers. It was a fraudulent college(LVMT) which was later shut down. 2,500GBP.

In 1977 Citroen from France was quite unique, but an Opel Record from Germany was every young manโ€™s dream car. I wanted the first because of the prestige and uncommon features.
Some had advised that I should get a Toyota Crown then but I was not trilled by Japanese cars then.
A Lada Nova SUV from Russia was more reliable even when compared to a 404 Peugeot from France.
Igala from Volkswagen was beginning to gain popularity and so was Moris Minor. Those were for civil servants which I was not.
Then. life was easy and a decent car was all you needed.
You people are the ones that enjoyed tho country. Check out varieties of car you mentioned..

About 20yrs ago:
1. I researched the best 10 cars that were the most fuel economical, spacious & had easily accessible and affordable parts.
2. Then I streamlined it to 5 cars that was within my budget of 900k-1million.
3. I thereafter reduced it to two that had the best resale value.
4. I finally made my choice with the one that had best body, engine, gear and no oil leaks.

Fellow nairalanders, this question got me thinking for a while now and I thought I should share it with you guys.
How do people make choice when they want to buy their first car?
Because sometimes I see people driving cars I don't think anybody can order with their hard earned money or maybe they were gifted.
The structure, the mod, the status, everything looks bad with these cars yet people purchase.
Hence my curiosity to find out about people's choice when buying cars.
low fuel consumption

Good clearance

Easy for KAZEEMS to understand

Cheap and available spare parts

Outside these four, whatever anybody add is secondary

Love and interest. First car was a "make I just buy one" purchase tho. But subsequent cars were well thought out. I knew what I wanted and I went for it. My current car was my dream car for 3 years.

Made a thread on Nairaland, accessed people's opinions and later went for the more compact car with its parts readily available among my options.

Toyota Camry pencil light.

I bought it in 2015 @ 600k. I have been using it till now but the engine is almost gone.

Plan to get another car towards end of the year. Looking at Camry muscle or 2012 Corolla.

My manager then drove his newly acquired 1998 Honda Accord to the office premises one Monday morning in august of 2007 . While we were admiring the car he mentioned the price as 1.4million naira. I quickly did a calculation that with 100k savings per month I could get one in 14 months. That was how I worked towards it and by December 2008 mine was delivered to me as well. It cost me 1.3million naira. 1999 model EX, my first car.
It took only the admiration of my managers own to choose mine and I never regretted that choice

I bought my Toyota Camry 2009 in December last year from someone traveling to UK.

This first owner bought it towards the end of 2019 as TOks. Unfortunately, coronavirus lockdown came and the car was parked all through 2020.

She managed to drive and only taking her kids to school, since the beginning of 2021 and just a few months in 2022 before I bought it December, 2022.

I am lucky I bought that car blindly without inspection. I was scared and because I read everywhere not to buy car without inspection ๐Ÿ˜‰.

I took that risk and my spirit was okay with this very car. A quiet ๐Ÿค engine, a car with pride and looks

I only trusted the seller and my guts told me the car is a good car.

Omo, I test drove the car, to my surprise, it looks like tear leather oooo.

The engine, very neat, AC cool as factory settings and everything intact oo.

I almost lost the car because my payments delayed and higher bidder too, on the standby to trigger the release clause ooo ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanks to God I was able make it and paid her.

Now, I am enjoying my ride and no issues. I only changed oil once and nothing to fix.

I drove the car to kogi in April. I owned the road. No issues. Flexible and a good friend .

Gear very cool. Brakes, cool.

I bought TOks in Nigeria ๐Ÿ˜‚.
