All these music talent hunt shows ,they should be allowing the finalists to compose their own songs with live bands. This way you'll truly know those who have music talent not just someone who has a good voice or can sing. That's why most people who win from their shows just fizzle out later and no one hears about them anymore.
I don't agree to that.. They don't necessarily have to write and sing their own song

Most musicians don't write their songs including world class musicians. They're written for them

Being a song writer and musician at the same time is a double talent

How many people has won project fame , Nigerian idol etc and has become a star? Just very few of them. I believe it should be an avenue for something better. We should be looking for talents out there not just those who are there as an avenue to just cash out. The bigger picture should be the aftermath of their winners , how will they end up. Even if you can sing , if person write lyrics for you and them give you beat for studio, you won't be able to voice better song with am because it's not your Forte

Writing and singing your own songs don't adjudge you a better singer than singing another person's song...!

They are testing your vocal skills, not your musical dexterity or talent!

The reason most winners don't blow after the show is because of the quality of the music industry! The Nigerian music industry doesn't give a shit about your singing ability, but rather your ability to water down your talent and sell your soul into the mainstream part of the business!

A typical example is Iyanya... His first single and album after winning MTN Project Fame failed to take off! Why??! It was not "Kpangolo"! He went back to the drawing board, looked at the musical taste of most citizens, reinvented and changed his approach, released "Kukere", and truly took off!

Sure I understand. That's why I said at the finals. The finalist should be judged based on this. Let them write their own songs and sing it. They have tested their vocals all thru the levels to get to the final. So give them a better challenge and get a worthy winner who might become a star instantly

Well, not every singer can write songs, and not every songwriter sings! Those are two totally distinct aspects of music! Most Music arrangers and producers can neither write nor sing!

This is actually not true. Those that watched the show from the beginning to the end will disagree with your opinion. The Gbakara guy is better vocally and performance wise than Precious except if you are a fan of hers but she tried though....

Many people still don't know that "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" is back on Tv!

A lot of these shows don't get the kinda media exposure BBNaija gets!

Most of davido song are written by other pple even films have script writers... So...

Exactly... Only a few musicians embody both or most aspects of music: Songwriting, Singing, Instrumentation, etc!

Typical examples include:

Babyface
Ne-Yo
R.Kelly
Fela
Johnny Drille
Dare Art Alade
Eric Clapton
Nathaniel Bassey
Etc...

That might be very difficult (if not impossible) in a nation with a literacy level that is still light years behind the rest of the globe! grin

What makes it boring?
What are the issues you discovered.with the judges?

You are right... It's long overdue!

Even movie awards don't throw enough light on writers! The main chunk of the spotlight keeps going to those in front of the mic and camera!
