Besides supply and demand, there are other factors at play, airlines being able to remit their funds back, Jet A1 prices, risk factors etc. But even for off-peak times, prices are up compared to previous years.

Btw, when you look at the breakdown of the flight fare, you will see the aiport charges & taxes per passenger. At least, other airports you can clearly see what they do with theirs, but MMIA has been getting progressively worse over the years and is one of the most stressful unpalatable airports to experience.

Due to many reasons
1. Nigerians have money and demand and price and supply. If they are losing money due to High price points, they would have lowered it.

2. Summer and students are starting school in the Fall. We have lots of Nigerians attending UK schools ..high school, University and Post Grad...they come home during the summer and need to return back. The airlines know this too.

3. They can't repatriate their dollars due to limited supply in Nigeria and you are buying in Naira, so they increase the amount so the Naira won't make them have a loss when dollars become available. For example...you charge N500 and can't remove it during Emefiele...now it's less than $1 when it was over $1 at that time.

4. Nigeria is a country of 200 million plus people..stop comparing us to ants like Benin or Cotonou. I am sure Lagos alone can dwarf both countries combined Lol

I think you are wrong..

This industry is mainly about demand and supply, and some times distance..

Even if demand will push a price up it shouldn't be over 400% and it should return back to the normal price when the demand is low..

But this one is diff..

Imagine say Lagos to Onistha cost pass, may be from Kastina to PH.

Demand drops prices in airline business, if you have more frequent travellers on a route, that will mean more service providers and the competition will drop prices because turnover is high. But when you tax the airline, they will invariably charge more for tickets, just take your time and see the break down of tickets on both our domestic and international flights, you will observe that over 35% of the money paid goes to taxes. So our government is responsible for the high cost of tickets.

Another reason for the cost is exchange rate, everything is imported in airline business from spare parts to fuel, so higher dollar rate means we have to cough out more money to travel locally.

Thank you very much. You have some common sense which many people don't have in Nigeria.
I checked online myself, and the price difference wasn't that much.
You will expect people to check these things before going to press, but unfortunately, most are just too gullible to belive anything without even doing their checks.

I checked Priceline for different dates from Lagos and Benin to Europe and the US. The prices were very similar. I have no clue where they got this propaganda information from. That's why the website information was cropped out.

Like I mentioned in the other thread. Anyone who wishes to travel to either USA or Canada should just go to cotonou and fly if you want to save and enyoy your money. You'd be glad you did. I was happy a friend gave me the hint. No stress, no hassles. Buy your ticket and fly. You may book your return to Nigeria shaa but it would still be high. I don't know why naija own com dey like dis. Ghana is far but flights from there to any destination too is far lower than what's obtainable here as learnt.

I hope our people wouldn't throng Benin Republic soon and cause flights to shoot up I saw a slot of them there, traveling too.

You are very correct. I've always said it. It is due to wickedness of many people not just those in charge because those in charge today were once followers.

The average Nigerian is wicked but keeps complaining until he/she gets to power. If some people become aviation minister today, d airline prices will double.

It's all about excessive tax to satisfy themselves and the elites. So these airlines have no option than share it among passengers.

Someone was saying because we fly more. Is it not suppose to be cheaper? If u buy more of something there should be discount.

The airlines jacked up prices so that whenever they finally get their money, they will get interest from it.

Poor leadership, yes!. I'm quite aware of the time Benin Republic used to throng Lagos Airport. Now, the reverse is the case. Nothing lasts forever. How are the mighty fallen undecided

Instead of having a national carrier, Hadi Sirika went and scammed us by bringing a hired plane into Nigeria from Addis Ababa whucb had been flying for 11 years, painted it in Nigeria Air colour, sent back same plane a few days after the ceremony and the flight was repainted in its original Ethiopia Airlines colour ,flying its normal route. See guy, i see revolution coming. Mark today's date

But how can a person pay for the tickets using their Nigeria bank card or it it better to carry cash to be exchanged to their local currency cash befor purchasing flight?

demand in Nigeria is not the same as in Benin. Taxes in benin are not same in Nigeria. Airlines also have their funds trapped in Nigeria and the cbn has been unable to give them dollars.





stop giving stupid excuses........Lagos to London is 6-7 hours.......same as New york -London, there are dozens of flights if not over a hundred between NY and LON........how much is economy ticket compare it to economy ticket between Los and LON.........it is far cheaper....! The high cost of tickets in Nigeria na scam.......perpetrated by those in government and the foreign operators..........So far Fulani interests is not at stake.....the sahelians will always sell Nigerians short....as usual the other critical actors, the yorubas will play dead so far they collect their share........no be yorubas dominate the travel agency business! no let me talk o!
