pandoragirigory:I actually went back to read the thread again. The two persons who issued the protest notice are actually Yoruba, but the people who get threatened are usually the Igbos. Does the pattern not ring a bell to your dull brain? |

LagosFirstSon:You're the one reading it with a tribalistic mind. Even a toddler knows that Lagos is heated for Igbos especially after the election. Common sense dictates that they should thread with caution on the land so as not to aggravate issues. |

Voiceofthestree:All right, but then there's reality, and there's pretending all's well. Plus most people in developed country don't earn enough to pay for their kids university educaiton too...which is why they pay for it via loans, or pay taxes. Heavy taxes. Good morning, and have a good day. And I am not shutting up either. |

Kind of amusing that Nigerians think you can get UK/US.Canada level of education on just less than 10 billion dollars per annum ![]() |

LagosFirstSon:Don't mind some irredeemable bigots here . Jagaban made a big mistake by removing subsidy when we don't have functional refineries that's the truth. Fuel is a dollarized product and any price increase will definitely impact on the local prices since we don't refine locally . Supporting Jagaban like I do don't mean I must be stupid in my reasoning |

nairalanda1:Bro, I get your point, but the truth is our standard of living is very poor compare to those countries. Our minimum wage is less than $50 per month. How do you expect an average family to cope. |
| Re: Tuition Hike: Nigerian Students To Embark On Mass Protest by nairalanda1(m): 8:24am On Jul 23, 2023 |
Tinububalls:The thing is, most families living in the developed world may earn higher but even they cannot afford the fees of their universities So they either take loans to pay for the fees, said loans must be paid back OR they pay taxes, sometimes as high as half their income, to ensure free education for their young ones and even others young ones. Or they start saving money for their wards education when they are born ( or if they are Obama, who on becoming president of the US, placed a large chunk of his monthly salary in an education fund for his two daughters to go to university when they were of age. An audit done in 2015 found that he had set aside 400000 dollars for one of his kids. If he was not president, na loan he go take) We don't do either in Nigeria, and the oil money we earn cannot sustain a nation of 50 million, talkless of 220 million . Yet that oil money forms 80% of our revenue, so loans. We have to either accept high fees, or high loans, or everyone pays high taxes,or just accept our bad universities as they are as the price of cheap education And yes, we must fight corruption. But even with fighting corruption, 1.1 trillion naira is not enough money for education when the 2009 ASUU agreement set a sum of 1.5 trillion naira over 2 years in extra funds for University education alone..not the whole education. Money which was only partially paid. I agree, it's messed up. |
