if the club can complete deals for Højlund and Amrabat, the summer window is suddenly looking very good.

🚨💰 The £20m for Eric Bailly represents the value of the 3-year contract for which he is under discussion and not the transfer fee. However, United will want to negotiate a transfer fee given he has one year left on his contract + 12 months as an option.

Yeah. Not just no strikers but no wingers as well. That is one of the major reasons why our Under-21 team struggles. They sometimes played with CM/AM in attack or on the wings.

The striker that was said to be the most talented Mejia came in from Spain in 2019 and has been injured for about 3 out of those 4 years. He is probably finished as a topflight striker unless a miracle happens.
Charlie McNeill and Joe Hugill came in the next year and although Hugill has improved a bit he is not a super talent while McNeill has struggled to cope with even Under-21 football.
Wahala.

I think Mainoo will start at least 10 matches for us across all competitions this season. He must always be available on the bench when he's not playing. We need him to be as close to the action as possible.

Don't know about Gore. He could get some cameo appearances here and there to help his development.
Mainoo should be a must start for those cup games at least. But who partners him? McFred? The coach will need to find a better partner for him.

Rasmus Hoijund.

I think he's decent when it comes to hold up play. I'm talking about receiving a long ball from the GK in the opposition half down the middle, holding up play and then bring his teammates into play.

None of our attackers can do that at the moment. Rashford o, Sancho o, Antonia o, etc. Even when DDG's long ball is accurate, they only make half an effort to control it and initiate an attack from it.

If we get a capable forward who can receive long balls from the GK, we can unlock a new way to score goals.

Imagine Onana finding Hoijund from deep with Rashford/Garnacho running down the flanks.
If he's too expensive we should skip. I'm not a fan of expensive transfers. We've not really been fortunate with expensive transfers.

There must be some cheaper option they can explore if Rasmus is overpriced. Nothing is guaranteed.

Gore should probably train with the senior team while playing Under-21 matches until January, then go on loan for the 2nd half of the season. It is a shame that they all play similar positions. Remember last year when i said they would cannibalise each other? Savage and Iqbal who shone last pre-season have now left the club and the clock is ticking on Hannibal. Gore and Hansen-Aaroen have maybe 2 years to stake a claim on a United future.
I think their future at United depend on what position ETH thinks Mainoo would be play long-term. If he thinks he is a 6 then they have a chance but if he sees him ultimately as an 8 then a couple of them will have to be moved on. It is difficult to blend multiple youth players in the same position into a team.
Not a bad idea at all - Gore training with first team and going out on loan later on. I just like his physicality. I don't think we've had players of that profile in a long time.

We don't need a good first xi, we need a good squad. And I think these young players can play a role.

Sad that they have to cannibalize each other later on but that's just the reality.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 2:36pm On Jul 23, 2023
Aside the senior team, the club needs to invest in talents for the youth teams. That's a good way forward if not we will continue to be at the mercy of unreasonable deals.

Wayne Rooney's boy to the rescue. grin

Jokes aside, we could get one or two good strikers for the youth teams this window.

That aside, I had high hopes for Hannibal. Still do. I want him to succeed at the top, even if it isn't at United. I don't like how his devrlopment over the last couple of years has been handled. These are his formative football years and his talents should be nurtured, not wasted.

Shouldn't have gone to Birmingham at all.

Cup games against lower league teams shouldn't be as tough as UCL or EPL matches.

So, we can play Mount, Erickson, Bruno alongside him. Fred is leaving. And McTomminay will make things more difficult for him if we have the ball a lot - which I expect against such type of opposition.

The £20M is what he'll earn over the course of the 3 years contract, not the transfer fee. If the same Al-nassr that paid £6M for Telles is offering 20 for Bailly, the club should sell. We won't be needing his services anyways.

100% agree.

It's not wise to pay loads of cash for players, especially for youngsters. The criticism it draws often impacts their performances negatively.

In your opinion, how much should we buy Hoijund? And how much is too much? I'd like to know.

Yeah the Birmingham move was a mistake but we have the benefit of hindsight. Another issue was the glut of midfielders in the youth setup and the dearth of wingers which meant that Mejbri, Shoretire, Hansen-Aaron and Forson who are all better centrally have spent significant periods of their development playing on the wings or in attack.
The clock is ticking on Shoretire and Forson as well. Luckily we have a manager who won’t waste their time. Once he decides that they can’t make it here he offloads them.

Bailly's obvious flaw is consistent injuries. he's not just a good defender, he's a very good footballer as well.

I was shocked and excited too to see £20m, clubs have found a way to sign our players for very little money.

The other option which is Kolo Muani will cost as much or even more than Hojlund. I'm sure ETH will make sure he signs Hojlund since he has already downgraded already from Osihmen because of high cost.
