I don't know why some people act like they've got extra lives kept at home. Why would a sane person even thing of scooping petrol knowing the risk involved? I'm not speaking ill of the deceased tho, just vexed by the length some people go due to ignorance.

RIP to the deceased 💔☹️

Tragedy struck on Sunday when 15 persons were reportedly burnt to death after a tanker exploded at Ore, Odigbo Local government area, Ondo State.

According to a source in the area, said the explosion occurred when the fuel was ignited by a spark from a phone held by one of the people who was scooping fuel that spilled from a tanker.

The source, who gave her name as Nireti, disclosed that the incident happened along Showboy Road, adjacent to a filling station in Ore.

She narrated that after losing control, the truck spilled its contents on the road, after which people began to rush in order to scoop fuel.

The source, a trader in the area, added that over 15 bodies were roasted in the inferno, including three children and a pregnant woman.

She said: “I was in my shop when I heard the tanker fall. The rain was also falling. People were taking fuel when fire started after a spark from a phone.

“Three children died, and we have counted over 15 bodies. A pregnant woman who wanted to buy the fuel also died. The money is still with her.”

Meanwhile, another eye witness identified as Cyriacus said they were inside the church when the tanker fell and spilled its contents on the road.

Cyriacus stated that some persons rushed to scoop fuel despite being warned by their Cleric.

He said: “We were inside the church when we heard that tanker fell. The rain was also falling. People were taking fuel when fire started after a spark from a phone.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olufumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, when contacted, said she was yet to get details of the incident.

These things happen all the time in different parts of the country. We are not the only country that uses, transports or stores petroleum products. Why don’t we hear the same explosions happening in other countries? Will heaven fall before we do the right thing and develop the safe infrastructure needed to transport volatile materials like petroleum products? Ugh

Even if fuel na 600k per liter I’ll never attempt a suicide mission as this!

Countless times 8 out of 10 times a tanker spills its content, next thing is human berbecues YET people never ever learn!

The Nigerian government has impoverished it's citizenss.
Re: Many Feared Dead As Petrol Tanker Explodes In Ondo by delishpot: 6:03pm On Jul 24, 2023
Nigeria, a country full of mad animals. No control over vehicle maintenance, no protocol to handle defaulting car owners who don't train drivers, make sure safety standard is strictly followed etc. Agencies just collect bribe a d look the other way . Lives are not appreciated until it's your own loved one in the tragedy.
The citizens are also foolish. How do you in your sane mind scoop fuel from a fallen tanker?

At filling stations, why the sign, switch off phones or don't receive calls?

Phones, walkie talkie etc can cause spark

Chai!

Naija journalism...I hail thee!

No phone spark anywhere.....the flood took some fuel through the erosion to a pregnant woman's kiosk who was cooking with gas....it got ignited and the fires traced the petrol back to the tanker.

The kids that lost their lives were playing when it got to them

The second pregnant woman went to call her hubby who was scooping the fuel to leave.

It was a gory sight here yesterday....may the victims RIP .
