vivalavida:Check your radiator hoses for leakages, and your radiator itself. Ensure the rewire working on your car is sound and not an incompetent person. Wish you the best of luck! Update us with the progress o. |

theadeola:I have done it this morning. I am gradually seeing an improvement already. It used to take a long time for my car to reach the normal operating temperature. Sometimes I will drive for 30 mins before it does so. But it is now reaching faster. At about 3 mins after start up, it is already at normal operating temperature. Even the error code P2185 i have been battling with has cleared. I will be monitoring the fuel economy now and will revert back. |

vivalavida:And it won't. Billions of dollars in research and development supports this. Car makers are not stupid, so don't mind any angry goat saying otherwise. Once your cooling system is fine, no overheating. |

theadeola:0W 20 is the recommended oil for my car too, where can I get it in Nigeria? Total and Mobil all have only 20W ish |

adexrocque:If u have sludge, then yes , bad for engine to change. But If u have being changing oil at regular intervals & have no sludge, then u can first start with semi-synthetic(mobile xhp 2000, total 5w30 etc), do it a few times, then go for fully synthetic ( U should know though, synthetic oil freaking expensive)... But does even 2003 car need a fully synthetic?..I think a mineral oil of correct weight would do just fine.. |

Born2conquer:If you're in Ibadan, I can help you get either Mannol 0W 20/5W 20, or Yuko 0W 20/5W 20. For our weather here, there's no difference between 0W 20 and 5W 20, as they are both 20 weight oils and have the same temperature range. If you're not in Ibadan but are still interested, I can arrange for it to be shipped to you. Just let me know what you decide. |

Elsueno:That car requires synthetic oil o. Manufacturer specifies 5W 30 with API SL (energy conserving). I don't think any semi-synthetic oil has that API rating. I might be wrong, but I don't think so. Other than that, your oil change method is brilliant, if there's no sludge like you said. |

| Re: Why the need to convert car fan to Manuel and remove thermostat by Born2conquer: 2:36pm On Aug 07, 2023 |
theadeola:How much? And can I still change to it since I already used 20w? |
| Re: Why the need to convert car fan to Manuel and remove thermostat by Nobody: 8:16am On Aug 08, 2023 |
Born2conquer:Depends on how long you've been using the 20W 50, how often you change your oil and the distance you covered between each oil changes. And also sludge. You can give me the information so I'll be able to better advice you. For the oil prices, depends on the one you want to pick, but the range is between 22-27k minus shipping. |

I'm glad to stumble on this thread. I drive an old benz c230 2006 model, last year the AC wasn't working properly and I went to the mechanic to check. There they changed everything to manual telling me automatic isn't good. My car has never been the same again, it swallows fuel like crazy, fan blows at high speed when I'm on traffic and the AC doesn't work when this happens. The car seems to accelerate normal but I noticed the fuel consumption and few abnormalities. Thinking of doing proper check of the catalyst and all. Any suggestions? Of good mechanic around Ikeja that can help me check this and probably return the fan to automatic? |

Ac manual or not,fan connected direct or not..AC manual is same voltage as auto.u suppose know say AC dey chop fuel. Dont even go there on a 4 plug or v6 with AC. The koko na plugs. No car in nigeria is running on premium plugs. Toks own na like 85% used. New na clone. Observe your plugs and catalysts. Also these days they blow air into your tank than gas/fuel,wohala for who dey buy full tank. U go pay like white.... calculate taya, confusion go taya u.... carry keg and refuse to be cheated at filling station. Carry keg for booth, park inside filling station....buy fuel insde keg..when u reach where you dey go. Pour the fuel inside car. Use AC. If e still chop fuel. Park the car, give me key fast. Spray:Glad it worked out for you,,,please help educate others on the importance of keeping their thermostats and fans as the manufacturers recommended. Many Nigerian mechanics have destroyed people’s vehicles with this singular act of removing thermostats and connecting fans directly. |

theadeola:I have not changed my oil for the past five months, I have only covered 2600 KM. I use Total 20W50 for Camry 2001. Hope my car is safe. |
| Re: Why the need to convert car fan to Manuel and remove thermostat by Nobody: 8:07pm On Sep 15, 2023 |
Musty4ahmed1:Hmm, maybe, maybe not. It depends on a couple of factors; - is your fan run direct, and is your thermostat still present? - how long have you been using the oil? - do you have to top up oil between oil changes? If yes, how much oil do you use? - how long do you go between oil changes? - do you drive short trips a lot? (I'm guessing this is yes, since you've covered only 2600 km in 5 months) Also, I think your 2600 is miles, not km as the 01 Camry displays distance in miles. |
| Re: Why the need to convert car fan to Manuel and remove thermostat by Musty4ahmed1: 10:32am On Sep 16, 2023 |
theadeola:It's 2600 Km converted from 1400 miles on the dash board. The oil guage well,I don't top any oil, infact the exhaust still evaporate water in the morning, I have not traveled long distance within the last five months of oil change, only one fan runs directly |
