Well Siasia team not winning gold medal with very average team was a minus comparing to gold winning Atlanta 96 with 60% of Super eagles players.

A team was rated 5th best in the world and U23 winning gold medal was better…my man I disagree.

The point was which was the better team. You clearly are saying Atlanta 96 were a better team. They broke into the Super Eagles early because they were highly talented. Far more talented that the Siasia team.

How can a team you tag average be better than a team you believe were of high quality?

maybe to you but to me I rate the 96 Olympic and France 98 World Cup ahead of the US 94 team
Nigeria US 94 team was rated 5th best in the world and won afcon the same year, well my opinion.

Yes average team do beat talented team?yes or no….my point Siasia team reached the final with average team compared to semi super eagles players that won Atlanta 96.

Atlanta still got it cuz the team won but I’m more impressed with Sia team.

in terms of achievement I give it to the US 94 team but when it comes to the team with more talented players playing in top clubs and leagues in europe the 96 Olympic team and the 98 World Cup team were superior in all angle

Also remember the team didn’t participate in afcon 96 and 98 editions because of issues between Nigeria and South Africa who were the host of the 96 edition which made caf ban the Nigerian team from participating in the next edition I bet you that if that team played in both Afcons they would hv won them without losing any game

The only edge the 94 team hv ahead of the 98 team was winning the afcon

Pls compare their World Cup performances not winning afcon….mind you US 94 team had 60% with Atlanta 96 had 45% players that made South Africa afcon squad until Abacha stopped our participation..Yes Nigeria would have won Afcon 96 but I doubt that of 1998 afcon cuz the same team failed to win Afcon 2000.

Nigeria would hv won the 98 edition comfortably because by then players that emerged from the 96 olympic team were already balling hard in europe

Baba forget that our 98 team too good. Players like Taribo, ikpeba, kanu, jay jay, finidi, babaginda, babayaro, oliseh etc were in their peak then

That team would hv crushed Africa in that year’s afcon edition

Also mind you that in afcon 2000 edition the team lost to Cameroon 🇨🇲 in the finals due to ill luck and bonfere Joe starting Ndukwe as the teams striker who he missed loads of opportunities in the first half before scoring in the second half when the team was 2-0 down already

the World Cup performance of the US 94 team was top notch, no one is disregarding that but my argument is that the 98 team had more established and talented bunch playing in big leagues and clubs in europe

They qualified for the 2nd round of the World Cup and exited just like the 98 team.

The 98 team underestimated the Danes and lost woefully while the 94 team couldn’t win a 10 man Italian team and got knocked out in regulation time. Conceding 2 late minute goals which shows how inexperienced they were

The 94 team opened the eyes of the world to Nigerian football which aided the massive export of our players to Europe after the teams performance but the 98 team were far superior and talented. Even the football world knew that the 98 team didn’t go far as expected in that year’s World Cup

A mixture of old and young emerging talents balling hard in top European clubs and leagues then

The only achievement the 94 team had that the 98 team was winning the afcon

The point is, which is the better team. With respect to quality of players and style of play. There is no comparison between Siasia's team and Atlanta.

Keep in mind the kind of players we played against Brazil. Ronaldo and Rivaldo became best players in the world. Roberto Carlos finished as second best player in the world in 97. Bebeto, Juninho, Conceicao who later played for Real Madrid.

Look at playing the likes of Crespo, Claudio Lopez, Ariel Ortega, even Gallardo was in the Argentine squad. These were humongous superstars.

You like the fight in Siasia's team but they are no way a comparison to the Atlanta team.

and the core of that Brazil’s Olympic team made their 98 World Cup squad

Players like R9,Carlos, Rivaldo etc went on to become world class players after that competition and played for the likes of inter, barca,Madrid etc

With prime Taribo,Babayaro and Kanu in that USA '94 team,Nigeria would have reached the final at least, but I'm not sure if Kanu would have been able to bench any of Siasia or Amokachi.

USA '94 was so good, yet I'm not sure we would have been able to win the world cup even if we were to get pass the Italians,
after taking some factors into considerations such as playing in d world final in our first attempt as a black nation and playing against Brazil, one of,if not most successful football nation at that time, and some other factors, winning the cup would have been an uphill task.

A lot of people have said that d USA '94 team would have won d world cup,but winning d WC is not that simple as having a very good squad.

1998 team that had injured Dan Amokachie,Emma Amuneke, off forms Austin Eguavoen,Ben Iroha, three poor goalkeepers and below par Rasheed Yekini.

Paraguay and Denmark matches should tell you that the team was over hyped and someone like me knew that the team will not make it based on poor friendlies matches or you forgotten 5-1 lost to Netherlands, beating Spain was a surprised to keen watchers of eagles.

US 94 team has just five minutes to go through and mind you nothing stopping that team reaching final if we beat Italy.

Rating that team 5th best in the world was not a joke.

Hmmm,Iheanacho only can answer this question.Iheanacho development in Man city was awesome but moving to Leicester with Vardy performing week in week out limited him and seeing him in championship not good rating for a player we all thought would have been one of the world.

IHEANACHO has hardly underperformed when given a run of games. The fact is that Leicester City has decided to keep playing Vardy over others.

Prime Taribo will bench prime Chidi Nwanu with ease. Seems you are forgetting that Taribo at one time was the best defender in the Series A, at that time, Serie A was highly rated. Chidi Nwanu never got close to that height. Prime Babayaro beat prime Iroha hands down. Prime Babayaro was a star Chelsea player and a performer in Europe.

Prime Kanu ahead of Amokachi and Siasia any day. Men Kanu did it at Ajax and put some good shift in a Superstar studded Arsenal.

The Bulgaria and Spain matches will tell you the quality of that team. What killed us in France 98 was poor preparation. If we had better preparation with a standing coach that worked the team from qualifiers to the World Cup, we would have performed far better. Also injuries to Ike Shorunmu and Shakpoke was also a big hamper to the team. I think even Baruwa got injured too. Talent wise, 98 team trumps 94.

small correction, in that Afcon 2000 final especially that first half we were thoroughly outplayed by Cameroon, if we had someone like Uzoho/Okoye in goal, there won’t be any need for Nigeria to come out for second half

Plus Ndukwe scored in the first half. Cameroon caught us on the counter in the first stanza.

Midfield that day was too open leaving Oliseh and a tactically undisciplined Okocha to handle the late Marc Vivian-Foe, Lauren and Olembe Olembe.

Kanu Nwankwo brought far more to the team than goals. That is why he was key and regular. His operation from deep and bringing the other forward players into game was a prime tactical strength of the team. That was why he played for the likes of Ajax when they were winning Champions League and reached the finals and Arsenal in their most dominant time.

The goals of Siasia and Amokachi never got them close to such level or recognition.
