Not just Ibadan...Black People have very poor maintenance culture. We don't really care . My primary and secondary schools were clean and modern back in the days...go and see how deplorable it is now . I almost shed tears the last time I saw the buildings 1 Like |

PureFace1: Oga, even a smaller Lagos has a larger developed area than the bigger Ibadan. Oga, stop the delusion , Nnewi , Onitsha, Obosi, Oba, Awka have far better looking houses than this dungeon called Ibadan. Oyo is also bigger than Israel , does your size nonsense still work ? Just agree that the west has stunted and regressed development. Your towns look like they are stuck in stone age . The Easterners renovate their abodes regularly, copy that. The 50s are too recent for this decay your towns keep showing 5 Likes |

PureFace1: Stop quoting Senseless or is it statisense you call it. It's a 2 by 2 backyard cybercafe churning out fake data for propaganda purposes. They have never provided any method they used in arriving at the numbers the push out. Imagine two Yoruba guys behind had to release what they called number of poor people per square kilometer who does that? Which normal organization produces such nonsensical data? Even the guys appear very hungry and can't possibly afford to spend money to conduct actual poll. Now, to the topic, when over 90% of all your so-called cities have rusted roofs and decrepit houses, then it's due to extreme poverty. If it's for conservation purposes, you can pick one or two towns and have a section reserved for UNESCO heritage. You people should stop those cheap propaganda because it doesn't make any sense. 1 Like |

InyinyaAgbaOku: I pity them. Instead of understanding there is a problem and focus on solving it, they choose to be saying trash. That's why I like Igbos, if they're the ones with this problem, they will keep discussing it holistically until there is improvement. They should continue lying to themselves, while the rest of the world advances. |

maticar: So you think Ibadan can be captured in one picture,or there is no new area since about 60 years ago. Also did you expect a house that has been built over 60 years ago not to get old. The problem you people have is that you are Just building houses in your region so there can't be old houses for sure. But know that all the new houses and companies in your region wont still match the new houses in Oyo till forever Just go to google and cure your ignorance, no standalone city is as big as Ibadan in West Africa, it is also the 2nd fastest growing City in Africa 1 Like 1 Share |

LOVEALAIGBO: NIGERIA RETROGRESSED? REALLY? In the 1970s only LAGOS had flyovers, maybe one or two. In the 1970s there were NO EXPRESSWAYS, apart from Lagos-Ibadan, completed in 1978. Travel was on two-lane face me I face you roads. Collisions were a daily occurrence, with terrible death tolls. In the 1970s university students did not dream of having cars. Today, campuses are filled with exotic cars and SUVs in the car parks. In the 1970s TELEPHONES were for the very rich. Today, everyone is on smart phone. In the 1970s there are only 12 universities, compared to 250 today. In the 1970s we had no befitting capital. Today, Abuja is not just the Pride of Nigeria, but the Pride of Africa. In the 1970s, Calabar, Nnewi, Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Abakaliki, Awka, Warri, Asaba, Umuahia, were more or less VILLAGES. Today, they have shopping malls, expressways, mansions, banks, universities, hotels, factories, nightclubs and bars. Oh sure we've regressed. EWU! |

That is Ibadan CBD of old. Cocoa house and the old major banks are nearby. The Kingsway, UTC and Leventis Stores axis was always a destination of choice during the holidays. I remember the very hot delicious meat pie at Kingsway stores and Santa Claus grotto with the mini train and "snowy" atmosphere leading to it during Christmas. St Michael's wears at Leventis and household stuff at UTC. The British Council and Western Region libraries were nearby for us to spend some time reading. The Lebanese stores and fabric stores of Dugbe market women were also nearby for window shopping. Sweet memories..... |

Re: Ibadan In 1970s Vs Now by Quintessence44: 10:44pm On Aug 09, 2023 |
Tomek09: YOU ARE AN ANIMAL. Individual efforts built you the world class stadium in Uyo and all the new roads, expressways and flyovers across the nation, and Abuja, and the 250 universities, and mass internet connectivity with the various undersea cables that facilitate it. STUPID BRAINLESS SCHOOL DROPOUT. |
