When the people feel the heat, they will be out in the street protesting the illegal govt

CSTRR:

What is the end game of the sanctions?

Let even assume that the coup leaders leave, bazzoum is reinstated and France get back in control.

How is it in Nigeria's short or long term interests?

Are you aware that it was France that frustrated the Eco currency and is responsible for a lot of our security woes?

The IQ of Nigeria is said to be as low as 74.
People like you and tinubu prove it everyday.

Niger is dare to Nigeria. Nigeria cant afford any rogue leadership in that country. Only a democratic leader that can be held accountable should be supported to rule.

1) Niger shares direct, porous borders with about 7 northern states, any instability in the country will definitely impact those states.

2)The trans saharanpur gas pipeline that is going from Nigeria to Europe, passes through Niger and it is a major long term income earner for Nigeria. Infact if it was in place, we would have bn balling right now cos Russian gas isn't getting to Europe as Nord dream is bombed already.

3) The river Niger is key to electricity generation and agriculture in Nigeria. A rogue unaccountable military rulers in Niger will mean that our interest isn't protected, he can decide to dam the Niger

Therefore it is key for Nigeria to ensure that whoever rules Niger isn't a rogue. A military ruler cant be held accountable by all international standard

I really dislike comments like this, it proves you have no idea of the state of things...

Lemme throw you a question, if the sanctions hit Niger as hard as you are illustrating, who get's hit, is it not the people of Niger?

and if the situation becomes unbearable in Niger the resulting humanitarian crisis will be handled by which country, is it not Nigeria that would have to deal with the refugee's from Niger?

just assuming there is an influx of 8 million people from Niger through the very porous northern borders, to add to the insecurity, and hardship currently in Nigeria... who will handle the situation? How many Nigerian families eat three square meals of late?

I will like to remind you that currently, Nigeria is in a very bad economic situation, and a humanitarian crisis from the North as a result of sanctions and military activity is something Nigeria should not even risk.

Infact to even let you know something vital, the people of Niger are actually struggling for their liberation from France... the same France that B.A.T is currently flirting with.

This is a situation that Nigeria should have immediately stepped in as a big brother and played high level diplomacy, using hausa elder statesmen and traditional rulers from the onset, not by using military threats and force.

War experiments at this time is something Nigeria can not afford on various levels

This B.A.T Gbajabiamila led administration is truly something...

Your opinion is not needed, ipob.

As for northerners or refugees from Niger, they will be bombed to smithereens if they try any nonsense. Yoruba is in power, they can't dictate to the president.

You don't know anything. In a situation whereby the political elites of Nigeria keeps plundering the common wealth of our people to satisfy the interests of some politicians and the western world, and you are a General in the Nigeria Army that can change things around for the benefit of your own people, will you continue to sit down and look or change things around? Do you have an idea of what's really happening in Niger?

What I can't understand is why Nigeria that is still suffering from epileptic power supply is supplying light to other countries. Still thinking about this because I can't comprehend it.

I will explain why to you, but before I do, i will like to say that Thank God it is President Tinubu we have at the helms of affairs at this challenging period.

Now, part of the agreements made with Niger when Kainji dam and Jebba dam were built for hydroelectric power in Nigeria was that Nigeria would supply electricity to Niger, and Niger must not obstruct the flow of the River Niger in any way. Presently, Nigeria supplies 80% of Niger’s power.

I am a core Northerner for your information...

And what is going on in Niger directly affects us in the North... as far as Nigerians are concerned, your micro aggression up here does not change the fact that who "you think" is in power(For now), is thoroughly incompetent.

Niger as it is presently, doesn't have any wherewithal anywhere to build a dam across the river Niger.
Even Nigeria as at today will not be able to fund the construction of a dam except they take loans from international sources or as usual, ask China to build the dam and they pay back over the years.
Building a dam in this present day no be beans or akara...even for a country like Nigeria, talk less of Niger that is owing Nigeria millions of dollars for electricity we have supplied them...take it from me as a construction cost professional.

Guinea is already damming the river. Niger too started Damming the river last year. Lack of funds is why they haven't completely dammed it yet.

It's interesting to see you Obidients organizing a "pity party" for Niger Republic on this thread. Weren't they once your enemies when Buhari was president?

Just last week, you were all laughing at the photoshop images of Tinubu during the Nigeriens protest against the Nigerian president
... grin

I will ignore your last 2 paragraphs and any such petty talk as it is irrelevant.
Anyway concerning the topic at hand. Yes, it seems you are correct, Niger has started making moves to construct a dam to reduce reliance on Nigerian supplied electricity. But the river has not yet been dammed.
As at 2020, the then minister of power, visited his colleague in Niger likely to dialog. The outcome was his statement that he will discuss with the Nigerian transmission companies to make a downward review of the tariffs for sales of electricity to Niger.
Dont you think by Nigeria sanctioning Niger ie cutting electricity to them makes it expedient, gives them more reason to pursue the cause of reducing reliance on Nigeria?
