During different periods of history, the Iberian peninsula ( Spain and Portugal) was ruled by different African tribes. The most popular were the Moors, the Taifas, Almoravids and Almohads.

These groups were more ethnically Berber than Arabs. Berbers are the real indigenous people of North Africa, the Arabs are recent settlers.

The arab conquered the berbers so we could say the berbers were servant to the arab who conquered and rule spain.
